DH & I are off to Bar Harbor Monday. It occured to us that in all our years of vacationing there, we've never visited the other parts of Acadia other than the main park on Mt. Desert Island.

Anyone have any tips, suggestions, etc. for the Schoodic Peninsula area? How long of a drive it is from Bar Harbor (or even Ellsworth)? Ferry ride length?

Thanks in advance! Looking forward to doing something a little different this time.

You are about 30 minutes out of Ellsworth and about 45 out of Bar. Try to go at a rising tide as that makes it more dramatic. There is really nothing to see there (such as ranger station etc.) but it is a neat spot with the waves on the rocky coast. Take the loop road around and you'll see some neat harbor areas and probably some lobstermen. Sturdy shoes needed for rock walk as it can be slippery if wet. Have fun. It's different from your usual Acadia experience. We're in Bernard,ME now-- great weather--lots of sunny days low 80's days and low 60 nites--really a much better summer than usual.
