Just try this! The average person only gets 7 right.

This is based on U.S. info, so use all lobes of your brain. This can
be more difficult than it looks - it just shows how little most of us
really see!

There are 25 questions about things we see every day or have
known about all our lives. How many can you get right?
These little simple questions are harder than you think-- it just
shows you how little we pay attention to the commonplace
things of life.

Put your thinking caps on. No cheating! No looking around! No
getting out of your chair! No using anything on or in your desk or
computer!

Can you beat 20?? (The average is 7) Write down your answers
and check answers (on the bottom) AFTER completing all the
questions.

REMEMBER - NO CHEATING!!! LET'S JUST SEE HOW OBSERVANT YOU REALLY ARE... If not, just have fun!

Here we go!

1. On a standard traffic light, is the green on the top or bottom?

2. How many states are there in the USA? (Don't laugh, some

people don't know)

3. In which hand is the Statue of Liberty's torch?

4. What six colors are on the classic Campbell's soup label?

5. What two numbers on the telephone dial don't have letters by

them?

6. When you walk does your left arm swing with your right or left

leg? (Don't you dare get up to see!)

7. How many matches are in a standard pack?

8. On the United States flag is the top stripe red or white?

9. What is th e lowest number on the FM dial?

10. Which way does water go down the drain, counter or

clockwise?

11. Which way does a "no smoking" sign's slash run?

12. How many channels on a VHF TV dial?

13. On which side of a women's blouse are the buttons?

14. Which way do fans rotate?

15. How many sides does a stop sign have?

16. Do books have even-numbered pages on the right or left

side?

17. How many lug nuts are on a standard car wheel?

18. How many sides are there on a standard pencil?

19. Sleepy, Happy, Sneezy, Grumpy, Dopey, Doc. Who's missing?

20. How many hot dog buns are in a standard package?

21. On which playing card is the card maker's trademark?

22. On which side of a Venetian blind is the cord that adjusts

the opening between the slats?

23. There are 12 buttons on a touch tone phone. What 2

symbols bear no digits?

24. How many curves are there in the standard paper clip?

25. Does a merry-go-round turn counter or clockwise?

(Scroll down for answers...)

Haven't seen a pack of matches in years ...

I didn't answer the fan question because some fans are reversable.

Was that the average being 7 wrong or 7 right? :)

18 right here. But I really hope that most engineers score above average, attention to detail is kinda essential for this field of work.

I got 17. Missed how many sides a pencil has, the top stripe of the flag, the direction of the slash in the sign, the radio dial, the VHF stations, the colors on the lable, the stop sign (I knew the answer and blew it anyway :o ), the paper clip and the venetian blind. Did better than I expected to!

I got 16 correct. I had problems with the VHF question, since I haven't seen a dial in years. And lugnuts (the things to loosen to change the tire)- I never look at mine.

19 correct here

22 correct here.

Close on the FM dial as I wrote 87, figured there would be a decimal to it though. Couldn't remember Bashful after reading all the other names. Guessed 25 in the book of matches.

I tell my kids all the time..."it's all in the details"

I'm pretty proud of my 18!!! Sad, when that means I answered only 72%!!!

I surprised myself and got 21. Should have had the odd/even numbered pages one too but I didn't think it through/confirm. Missed the VHF because I forgot about there not being 1, didn't know the FM dial and was high on my pencil guess. A fun little quiz.

19 here- I missed the FM dial, the TV tuner, the Statue of Liberty's torch, the matches, the cards, and the women's blouse question (not sure how I blew that last one!!).

I got 16. BTW, I have never heard the expression "a pack of matches." I didn't know whether they meant a book of matches or a box. Actually, when several boxes are packaged together, I guess that would be a pack. I didn't know how many were in a book of matches anyway, though.

18.
I missed the soup colors, matches, .3 off on the fm dial, no smoking slash (I can't believe I missed that one!), I included the UHF mark on the tv, lugnuts, and Venetian blinds (I've never had any).

21 correct here. I missed the FM dial, slash in the No Smoking sign, even/odd pages, and the merry-go-round. I was surprised I got the lug nut one right...it was mostly a guess. :D

I got 18 correct. I find it hard to believe that the average American only gets 7 correct.

21 here... forgot blue on the soup can, the no smoking slash, the numbers on the telephone dial with no letters and the even odd book pages thing.

Average is only 7? Not sure I buy that either.
It is funny what you know, but don't know you know, isn't it?

23, matches and bashful.

I have to believe average is significantly more than 7. Especially since 11 of the 25 questions were 50/50. Just guessing alone would give you 5-6......

I got 19. I was pretty certain I would miss just about everyone I missed. How many matches in a matchbook?? Too bad the question wasn't what's the TOP number on the radio dial. :D I know that one! Barely missed the lower number.

You all are a bunch of smart cookies.
I thought I was too, but apparently not. :o
Only got 13 right! And I was so sure I was doing well. Oh well. Impressed with all of you, though. I have noticed that the people on this BB tend to be very detail-oriented, so I'm not really surprised!

I'll make everyone feel better. I got 13. (Being older does not make up for the fact that I am not very observant!)

I got interupted too many times to get a counts, but I gave the test to DH. Same thing applied for him, but he thought it was 17. He laughed when I told him, "Well it can't be because I'm observant!" He's not. Really not. But he has a stash of trivial knowledge that amazes me. We must be well matched, because I'm pretty certain that as a group score, we would have had them all.

No wonder my kids can be such know-it-alls! ;) :D

I got 18 right.

I think the answer to the ceiling fan quesiton is wrong because all my fans rotate in either direction. :D

I got 16. I missed one color on the campbell's lable, the pack of matches, the flag color (guessed right, but changed my answer), the radio dial, the VHF dial, the pencil, the dwarf, and the merry go round.

My fans will turn either way, and although I got the blinds right, you can now order them with the slat turner on either side.

(I'm 27--how many VHF dials and packs of matches do you think I've seen? :D )

I knew the lugnuts because I just blew a tire and had to change it. :p

I scored 20...I missed the Statue of Liberty, soup can, FM (I put 87), the VHF channels, and the lugnuts.

I got 18 right.

I think the answer to the ceiling fan quesiton is wrong because all my fans rotate in either direction. :D

It didn't specify ceiling fan. Regular portable fans just go the one way, I think.

I got 17. I evidently don't look at the radio enough (just push the presets on my car stereo)!

Lug nuts are what hold your car tire onto your car wheel; you deal with them when changing a flat tire or putting on your snow tires. As someone who's had to change a flat, I'm familiar with them.

I find it hard to believe that the average American only gets 7 correct.

I thought it was hard to believe too, but didn't think much of it when my score revealed such an "above average" score :D ... that is, until all y'all's scores came in :( :D

I wonder if it reveals something about the average "American." I know that a lot of the stuff I missed had something to do with the fact that even though I'm an "American", I wasn't naturalized until I was 8. So even though we're proud to be Americans, our family wasn't brought up in what most would call an All-American lifestyle: I never saw Disney's version of Snow White, our family was never into Cambell's soup, never bought hotdogs from the grocery store. Being in my late twenties, I don't even remember ever having to change the TV channel on a dial, or change the radio channels by anything besides a button, etc...

Perhaps the average score of the quiz is telling us some surprising things about the real American... (Either that, or the website I got this from had a typo, and that the score is really 17 :D )

I got a 15. :o
I missed the match question,
The FM dial,
Water down the drain,
VHF dial,
Sides on standard pencil,
Who's missing,
Card maker's trademark,
And the merry go round question.

Seven seems low to me, also.

I'm surprised at the people in their late 20's never having seen a VHF dial on a TV. I'm 28 and the TV we had until I was in Jr High had one...
