Here’s the problem…we have a new 150 lb. digital TV and need a TV stand to store the DVD player, etc so DS (15 months) can’t get into it. So preferably we need something with glass doors and knobs that we can tie shut, and we’re dealing with a limited range of dimensions so it can both be wide enough to fit the TV but small enough to fit into the space.

We found something (only seen on-line) that looks like it would be perfect, but it’s by O’Sullivan which I imagine isn’t the best quality, but the selection for “real” wood is so limited. Do you think we can trust it???

Engineered wood is going to be stronger than a similar piece of wood, and heavier (you don't want to have to carry a large assembled piece up or down satirs if you can help it).

I know the name and asked DH about it. He said O'Sullivan is probably one fo the best products in engineered wood. Saunders is another. If you get a real wood veneer, it will look a lot like a true wood piece. If the veneer is also engineered, then the look will be dependent on how well they made it look like wood.

DH says we/he have had O'Sullivan pieces and they have gone together well and been very sturdy. He thinks the desk our boys have upstairs is by O'Sullivan, and we have had that through 3 moves, 2 boys and most of our 14+ years together. It's still as strong as an ox, sturdy, nothing wrong with it.

My computer desk is O'Sullivan and it's very sturdy. A friend had a huge TV in a Sauder mission-style entertainment unit that was beautiful and fit all her components as well. Both my desk and her TV stand went together easily but we needed more than the two of us to stand them upright when it was completed. :)
