August Quilting Thread

Ha ha! Get it? Quilting? THREAD?? I kill me. :D

Anyhoo, the monthly knitting thread has been quite helpful and fun for people, so I thought I'd start a quilting thread. Because we know I needed MORE hobbies to spend money and time on. :eek:

I just finished cutting the pieces for my very first quilt, a baby quilt from a book called Stack the Deck: Crazy Quilts in 4 Easy Steps. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1564774341/qid=1123674905/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/002-4603015-9862438?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) Here is the photo of the cut and stacked blocks, which I am going to cut into craaazy shapes today, shuffle, and sew back together to form blocks again:

The yellow bug print blocks are going to remain whole.

I'll post more photos as I go (editing to add that apparently I will be using Imagestation since Ofoto STILL doesn't let you link to a website...grr).

Ooh, I already have a question and it's only 8am.

How often do you have to change rotary blades? I bought mine yesterday, and I'm already noticing some dullness after all the cutting yesterday. Should it only last through one quilt? Rotary cutters are SO much fun!

Your fabric made me think of bug jar quilts. Have you seen any of those, quite the thing 3 years ago. I gave up quilting years ago, broke my obsession after 10 years. Maybe this thread will inspire me to get back in the game. Love your colors too. Bold.

My two cents: be generous with your use of pins. I tried to be stingy when I was learning (to "save" time), and ended up with mismatched corners. Other than that--have fun!
