Harira: Well, here's what I did, I couldn't find a small portion of lamb in the grocery store, so I bought about 5 lbs of it- so I quadrupled my recipe. I was so surprised that it lacked much oomph in flavor. Cinnamon is not enough to go it alone, even with red pepper. I added garlic and salt. Still, it is lacking. I rate this recipe a 5.5/10. Doubt I'll make this again.

Cinnamon was the only seasoning? I don't have the May issue to compare recipes yet, but the version I make has turmeric, black pepper (lots of pepper <g> ), ginger and cilantro too. I always add garlic and extra lemon juice helps too.

FIVE pounds?? egad! Won't the butcher split the package for you (i've had them do that for me) or couldn't you freeze most of it and just cook the required amount?

But hey, I guess you were really enthusiastic about the recipe...

I have to second "MorningAWalker"'s lack of "oomph" review. I followed this recipe exactly (except I used chicken breast instead of lamb). It needs more -something-.

I really liked the Harira recipe. I was generous with the cayenne pepper. I followed the recipe completely with the exception of the addition of an extra 1/2 cup of onions,1/2 cup of red bell pepper. I used the red lentils and the whole can of garbanzos. The lamb was very tender and yummy.
