My 10 year old dishwasher died! Anyone have one that they could recommended? Looking for a quiet, stainless steel dishwasher!
Thanks

Consumer's Report gives very high ranks to Kenmore. They look very much like the Bosch and are less expensive. They are very reliable (per CR). When I looked them over I liked one that had a feature which made it very easy to move the top basket up and down.

My friend has a Miele and LOVES it but it was well in excess of $1000.

If the dumb search function was working, there's a great dishwasher thread floating around here.

Anyways, after reading that and doing online research on Consumer Reports' web site, we bought the GE Profile 2 weeks ago and love, love, love it. SO quiet, you can barely tell it's on. I got the one with the stainless steel tub, and being it's a tall tub, I can fit even my largest platters and cookie sheets in it without a problem.

I bought it at Home Depot, and it was $769 or so. I used a 10% off coupon, and also bought the extended 2 year warranty, just in case.

On Consumer Reports' web site, you can pay 4.95 for a month of access to all their reports, which I did, and helped greatly. Hope this helps!

We just bought a Kenmore, primarily based on the consumer reports reliability ratings and the fact that they had more appliances rated in the top 5-10 than any other single manufacturer. It was around $500-$600. I love it. Compared to my old one: it's quiet (I can watch TV without blaring it now while the dishwasher is running), it fits far more dishes, it fits far larger dishes (I can even put small plates and wine glasses on the top rack), the top rack adjusts, I don 't have to pre-wash anything except cooked on egg (which is hard to get used to), it has a delayed start setting, it is an energy star model, did I mention it's quiet and that I can fit big stuff in there??? :):) I really like ours. Another plus was that the sales and delivery staff at Sears gave us SUPER service.

My one piece of advice would be to take your dishes to the appliance store and make sure they fit. The everyday dishes I had at my Sacramento house were too big for the dishwasher in the house we bought here at Lake Tahoe.

We've had a Bosch for 7 years and love it. It's very quiet. That was the top of my list as far as priorities go - but then, anything that cleans my dishes sounds like a symphony to me!

We just had our dishwasher die about a month ago. We had loved that dishwasher and had it for 7 years and we do A LOT of dishes. Well, I love my new one even more. I researched and did pay to view Consumers' Report online. I went with the Kenmore Elite. It has the stainless tall tub, adjustable top shelf, and many other cool features. It is quiet too. The only time I can hear it is when the water is sloshing around a lot and that is only if I am standing in the kitchen near it. It retails for about $850, but I got it on sale and they also had a rebate on most of the installation/delivery fee. I also got the extended warranty and when it was installed they put a dent in the front, so the store gave me $150 refund. That made it even nicer price. The dent isn't very noticeable (except I know it is there) and with 3 kids and a dog, it is likely to get dented, etc. anyway.

I really am happy with our choice and since DH knew nothing about what I ordered until it was delivered, he really is happy with it too. It comes in Stainless finish, I got white, I think the stainless is a little more $. Now that we have this new machine, it really shows how much our old machine wasn't performing well, it must have been dying slowly and we didn't realize it. This new one gets the dishes spotless and sparkling.

I've had my Kenmore Elite stainless tall tub model for a little over a year - love that it's quiet, racks are adjustable, delay start setting... dishes don't need any rinsing but I'm finding in the hot New England summer it starts to stink a little and I was getting ants in there (I think DH and bro-in-law don't close it all the way...) now when I see this I hit the Quick Rinse cycle and say Take That! to the ants & odor. Wish I could have found a model where the silverware basket was on the door - my brother has that in a Whirlpool tall tub model but I couldn't seem to find one from any maker at the time I was shopping that offered that. Admittedly I only went to Sears. Also I subscribed to Consumer Reports online and this was Energy Star rated - we run ours about every other day and it only takes 7 gal of water, which was low - but it does take almost 2 hrs for the full cylce.

I would definitely re-purchase unless I could find one with the silverware on the door.

You won't find the silverware basket in the door with stainless and many of the models with any kind of interior. That was something I really wanted, but when I got my Kitchenaid (same as the Kenmore Elite) I gave up on that and got the racking, tall tub, etc. that I liked. I wound up really liking the basket that it came with better --- held a lot more. That was in the last house, and I think we'll probably get one like it for this house soon.

Thanks for all of the advice, I'm going shopping this afternoon. Getting tired of washing dishes by hand!
