Hmmmmm. The only fat I see is the avocado, chips and small amount of oil.

Hmm, indeed. I just entered the ingredients into my MasterCook exactly the way you have them, and I came up with 259 calories per serving. (That's without the tortilla chips, which MasterCook somehow didn't count, maybe because there was no quantity given.)
Try checking the calorie count of each ingredient and see whether any ingredient seems to be carrying the bulk of the calories. (Go into edit mode, and for each ingredient row, choose "anaLysis" from the "Ingredient" menu <alt-I, L>.)
Let us know what you find out.
Cheers,
Phoebe

Maybe that's the fat content of the entire salad. I think an avocado has around 22 grams and then if you add the oil, that would probably add up.....

well, for some reason, it is showing the oil is 275 cal for each 1/8 T. Phoebe, I like your calories....would you mind telling me the fat and fiber content for my WW points? TIA http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
ps....it wouldnt be the fat content for the whole salad since I have put in 8 servings! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Kim,
Mine calculates 357 calories, 7g fat, 11g fiber. That would be 6 points per serving. Curious to see Pheobe's.

Mamasue - I originally got a similar calorie count to yours, but then I realized I'd automatically entered the black beans as "1 15-oz can" rather than "1 can" with the ounces in the Prep Method column. So I switched to "1 can" in order to duplicate Kim's entry. Apparently, a generic "can" is smaller than the one in the recipe. But how much smaller can a can of beans be (no puns intended) without limiting each portion to three or four beans? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/confused.gif I'll have to check this out again later.
Anyway, I can't imagine why 1 Tbsp of canola oil is showing up as 275 calories per serving (i.e., 1/8 Tbsp). http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/confused.gif Kim, try deleting the oil row and then re-entering it, and see what happens.
Head-scratchingly,
Phoebe

Okay, here I am back again, with a new post instead of editing the previous one -- so people can see where problems crop up and where to look for solutions. (Once a teacher, always a teacher. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif)
First and most important: the measurements were entered in a way that Mastercook couldn't recognize them. The oil, for example, was showing up as "whole" rather than a tablespoon because MC's abbreviation for Tablespoon is Tbsp, not T. It doesn't recognize either "T" or "t." Similarly, "c" with a period after it doesn't mean "cup" in MC; enter the "c" without the period. And so on. In fact, if you want to use abbreviations, go into Preferences and indicate that MC should convert all your measurements to abbreviations. (You'll get a pop-up list of available ones each time you start to enter one.)
Second: The black beans should have been entered as "canned black beans" to differentiate them from dried beans, and the size of the can should be entered in the Measurement column, like this: "15-oz can"
I think most of the other glitches boil down to variations of the above. Once I corrected the measurements, the two versions (one with "can" and the other with "15-oz can") wound up like this (I'm just including the ingredients and nutrition, not the directions):

Pheobe....you really know your beans! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
You are right about the tablespoon, teaspoon, cup, etc. abbreviations. I always automatically edit recipes that are posted to show them spelled out instead of abbreviated. I had the beans listed as:
15 ounce black beans. Thank you for pointing that out. Now I will make sure to check other recipes .
Now I have another brain teaser for you. I can't believe that the recipe below is so high in calories. If this is true than I get 11 WW points per serving. What do you get? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Thanks Pheobe

Mamasue - I think I've spotted the fettucine problem without even trying it out in MC. The program is reading the "fettucine" as uncooked. If you reenter it as "cooked fettucine" (or link it to "cooked pasta" or "cooked spaghetti" if there's no existing entry for cooked fettucine), your calorie count will probably decrease significantly.
Ta-dah! I'm on a roll! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I highly recommend the salad and have been making it for a few years now!! I originally got it from an old Eating Well magazine -which is now very dog-eared. In fact, I made it for Mother's Day dinner because it is my sister's favorite salad and she insists on my making it a lot during the summer.
I cut the oil down to 1 teaspoon, never add chips and add 1 chopped chipotle to the salsa.
Btw: Phoebe, I finally received my Bean Bible through half.com and it really is an interesting book. I don't know where to start!
