View Full Version : I have finally become a woman...

Well, I did finally did it. After years of saying that it could never happen to me, that I would never be fortunate enough, and I would never find the right one, it happened. I've always thought that my life couldn't handle it, and that my personal space too small to handle such a commitment...but yesterday I found a way to make it work, and I am a real woman. I now own a KichenAid Stand Mixer!!! I can't believe it!
My visiting parents wanted to go to an Antique Mall south of our home, so we took them yesterday. I was in the place 5 minutes, when on a shelf, nestled among kitchen gadgets dating back to 1936, there sat this shiny, beautiful, perfect 300 watt Ultra Power/Tilt Head mixer with a 4.5 qt bowl with not a single scratch, in my favorite color of cobalt blue!!! Sitting right there like it was waiting for me! First thought was that there was something wrong with it, but the lady said the guy that runs that booth buys lots from abandoned storage lockers, and it worked perfectly. I plugged it in, put it through its paces, and sat there jumping up and down like a little kid. Hubby said we didn't have counter space...I told him I'd MAKE counter space! He and I did some mental 'relocating' of kitchen counter items, and both agreed it was too good a deal to pass up. We got the owner to sell it to me for $100!!! It's the mixer, the 4.5 qt bowl, and the wire whisk, nothing else...but I got on the Kitchen Aid website last night and ordered the dough hook and the flat beater for $14.99 each! So, I got a perfectly wonderful mixer, the three basic attachments and the one bowl for a grand total (with tax) of $140. Yeehaw!! Got it home last night and put it in its new home, and it just looks beautiful. I finally feel like a real cook, not just someone playing at this little hobby!
It's amazing, I'm starting to feel more earthy, more womanly...I think I'm beginning to glow sensually...I want to go mix something. I did it! I did it! I did it! No longer a child, now a woman... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
Congrats to you Jewel!!! I have not grown up yet, dont have room!! LOL. Someday too, I want the cobalt blue one too. That is my favorite color. I have a cobalt blue paperweight with some bubbles put in it. Very relaxing to look at.

Congratulations! I just got mine on Wednesday as an early Mother's Day present, and have already used it several times. There is nothing like it! I know what you mean about no space -- mine resides in the cabinet under my kitchen sink and I have to lift it out onto the counter each time I want to use it, but it is definitely worth it http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Jewel...you are so funny! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif If owning a Kitchen Aid mixer is becoming a woman than my mother at the age of 80 years old became one about three years ago. My sister and I own one and we talked so much about it that she bought one too and that is pretty amazing for a woman who lived during the depression and counts every singel penny! So congratulations and now you have something to look forward to when you come home from your surgery. In fact, when I have had surgery, the anesthesist(sp)...Emily helping me here...told me to think happy thoughts. So what better happy thought than thinking about your cobalt big boy sitting on your counter waiting patiently for you to start his engine! Hehe http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
Again, good luck tomorrow!

Jewel,
I just purchased one a few weeks ago and Love IT!! A word of caution, I have managed to dust my complete kitchen with flour when using it.

Hooray! Can you imagine someone letting one of those go, or leaving it in a storage locker? That boggles my mind! Mine is cobalt blue also and I love it.

Gaye, I'm with you on that one! I don't quite understand that one either. My SIL got a big Cuisinart Food Processor as a wedding gift ($$$), and NEVER opened the box. The year before I met my husband (and I still didn't have a FP yet), she sold it, brand new, still in the box, in her garage sale for $10.00!!! I almost flipped out when I heard that. She said she would never use it. Someone really got a bargain that day (and it wasn't me! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif )

Congratulations Jewel! You crossed the threshold; you've finally made it. Ahhhhhh.......
Now, all you need to do is name her. Yes she'll strew flour all over your kitchen - it's her way of saying "Honey, I'm home!!". Yes, she's heavy and sometimes cumbersome. It's her way of saying "I'm here, and I'm staying!!!" But to make her completely feel welcome, give her a name. Something that pretty shouldn't go by "The Mixer".
I named mine Bea. She's also cobalt blue, and what a beauty to behold. My family even refers to her by name.
Congratulations!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Hiya Luv2,
Nope - never have named my cars. I'm a "leaser", and rarely have a car past two years. I don't bond to cars. I'm in the automotive industry - maybe that's why - lol.
Maybe I should speak to a therapist about this Kitchenaid thing.......... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/redface.gif
I know exactly how you feel.....after 27 years of marriage, 2 kids, and a grandson, I finally got my KA.
I was keeping it in a cabinet, but got tired of pulling it out, too heavy!
Now it's got a place on honor on my counter; I use colorful, funky, cloth napkins as a dustcover, and change them weekly. They serve as a cover till I find/make one I like.
Enjoy!

Congrats Jewel! Actually, just purchased one myself (did not get the deal that you got http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif - and I, like cchhbb have flour, etc., flying all over the kitchen??? Another thing, you know when you are finished beating/whatever, is there not an easier way to get that beater sort of cleaned off (my old Sunbean, I would lift the handle carefully on very low) do you have to clean with a spatula thingie AND what do you use this for mostly? I primarily bought it to make dog food - do that - make the blueberry pound cake - was great - what else other than baked goods are usages - but really want to know about cleaning those beaters with TONS of batter on - there must be a quicker way that what I am presently doing. I of course have to agree that that is one AMAZING MACHINE!!!!!

I was fortunate with mine....MIL (or at the time future MIL) bought mine as a shower gift! Since then we have moved......7 times (in 7 years) and it has made the move beautifully every time http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Depending on the kitchen size, it has sat both on the conter and in the pantry, but it is always loved and used when I am in a baking frenzy!
