DH, new baby Rex, and I will be traveling to Plano for a wedding at the beginning of October. We are thrilled that the bride and groom have included the baby because I wasn't sure how I was going to pull off a sitter in a strange city for a 2 month old. But I digress...

Is anyone familiar with that area of Dallas? The wedding and reception will take place at Maggiano's. The bride and groom have recommended a few hotels, Courtyard by Marriot and Holiday Inn Express. But usually we like to stay somewhere a little more upscale than that. Of course we will have an infant with us so maybe I'm dreaming :p

We are just so excited to get out of town. I was grounded in regards to any type of travel for my entire pregnancy. We bootlegged a trip to the hillcounty in the spring just because I was going stir crazy! So I guess we are trying to make this trip as special as we can. :)

Thanks,
Kim

I've stayed at the Marriott at Legacy Town Center twice...it's close to shopping which was a plus for me to keep me entertained on boring business trips. Also, I got chocolate covered strawberries at check-in. Don't know if they still do this, but it was a nice touch.

Plano is pretty far out there in the suburbs, so I am not sure really if there is much more then has been mentioned. The two places that were recommended to you are pretty new and will be fairly nice. Right down the tollway in Addison there is a Hotel Intercontinetal which is very nice.

Actually I will be doing errands in that area, so I will keep my eyes open for anything else!

If you are looking for upscale and you are going to the Maggiano's on the Dallas Tollway, then I second Marriott at Legacy Town Center. This Marriot is off the tollway, so it'll only take you 10-15 minutes to reach Maggiano's. I've stayed at the Hotel Intercontinental. It too is off the tollway and only 10-15 minutes from Maggiano's (in the opposite direction from the Marriot). Hotel Intercontinental is a much older hotel and reminded me of the hotels you see in movies from the 40's. It is very nice. Both choices are very nice. The older hotel is probably cheaper, but if you like modern trendy, then the Marriot is very, very nice. The Marriot is also within walking distance of some very good restaurants and high-class shops.

Also within 10 minutes (via Tollway) from Maggiano's is the Westin Stonebriar Resort (high on the AAA and Travelocity ratings). It's right by Stonebriar Mall and tons of shopping. The other direction up the Tollway from Maggiano's is the Westin Galleria (also about 5 minutes), which is, of course, next to the Galleria. Those are about the most upscale places you'll find next to the Intercontinental already mentioned. However, if you want REALLY nice, it's not far to downtown Dallas and hotels like the Crescent Court or the Mansion on Turtle Creek (both on this website www.rosewoodhotels.com/hotels.cfm). But those are really $$$. ;)

I was going to suggest the Stonebriar resort too. It isn't very far from Maggiano's and there is tons to do around there. Plus the new Ikea is generating lots of buzz. :D

Thanks guys! I'm going to check out all of those mentioned. I've always wanted to stay at Mansion on Turtle Creek, but think we will save that for a weekend without baby ;)
