My sister will be travelling to Virginia Beach from Toronto, Canada and has offered to go shopping for items that are not available here. She asked if I could give her specific locations.

So does anyone know where a person could find cinnamon chips and malted milk powder? Also is there a Penzey's near there?

I don't think there is a Penzey's, but there is a Trader Joes. My parents live there(I grew up there). I will ask mom where the Trader Joes is.

Hate to disagree, but I dont think there is a TJ in Hampton Roads :( I grew up in that area (and when I heard that, I had to check the Trader Joes website! LOL Very excited! but I didn't see it listed) but now live in FL....

But if I was going to go 'foodie' shopping in Virginia Beach, I would go to Hilltop (Laskin Rd/First Colonial Road). There is a Fresh Market supermarket there that often tends to have more unique items. There is also a Taste Unlimited there (which has FABULOUS sandwiches! LOL) and a small market.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. (sorry!) :)

I live in Virginia Beach and oduamy is right - no TJs, no Penzys. There are lots of TJs in Washington DC, about 4 hours away. I second the Fresh Market. It's about the best place to go around here for "unique" food. Depending on what you want, Harris Teeter (grocery chain) might be worth checking out.

I especially would like cinnamon baking chips and malted milk powder. I can't find them around here.

You might also check out Taste Unlimited, they have some cool food items and great sandwiches as well. There is one on Shore Drive in VA Beach (Bayville Farms), one on the strip (or at least there used to be), and one in Ghent in Norfolk.

For malted milk powder, you should be able to find that at any regular grocery store down there (Farm Fresh, Harris Teeter, Food Lion).

There are things that are in Canada that you can't get in VA - Barq's Red Cream Soda (yum) and the whipped honey (not sure exactly what its called).
