I called The St. Vincent DePaul Thrift shop in Houston (which Beth posted information about) about and was told to go to the following website to find out what they are specifically in need of. The web address is:

When you get to the website, go to the section marked "donations needed right now"(or something to that effect) and you'll be able to download a list of supplies to send. They are apparently updating the list every few hours throughout the day. They also mentioned elsewhere (not on the list you'll download) needing children's pajamas, slippers, children's shoes (apparently many children are shoeless and this is very unsafe), crayons, paper, coloring bks. and storybks.
My husband and I have shopped today and among the other necessities we're sending along, found some fun things the children might find pleasure in (such as pre-packaged, colorful, stationery sets that have pencils, pencil boxes, rulers,erasers, sharpeners, and scissors). We will begin sending our boxes out on Tuesday when the post office is open again. I hope this information is helpful.
