Grrrrrr. Is anyone else having problems getting their custom avatars to work? I have a valid URL for mine (http://www.ideasmithdesign.com/murphy2.gif), and it takes about 4-5 attempts of putting in the URL into the custom avatar spot on my user CP before it takes. Once I save changes and go back to the boards, though, I'm back to the red X (or blue question mark since I'm using Safari). Anyone got this figured out yet?

Your little guy is jumping on my screen, Lisa! But I have to say that it is the minority of custom avatars I can see - mostly just x's where avatars should be (you mean I have to actually READ to see who posted? It's frightening to think how many scores of avatars are shorthand in my pea brain!)

No foolin? How strange that I can't see my own stinkin' avatar. I too can't see a lot of avatars. I really miss Merlee's jumping toast.

I think it was Hejazsunkat that posted this trick originally: right click on the red x and then click on show picture. Sometimes it takes a few tries but eventually it shows up. Generally once I do this fixes it permanently for a that poster. I think it took me 3 tries to get yours to show up Lisa.

Once I followed these instructions for Lisa's avatar, it showed up for me, too. I'm waiting until my post appears to right click on my avatar (bouncing tennis ball).
Vagaries of the internet, browsers....please send me back to the days of mimeo machines and carbon paper! NOT!

Me too! I still think there must be some type of glitch at the CL end because sometimes I can see everyone's avatar's and other times it is just the red X's in the box. It is random so there is no rhyme or reason to it either. Mine keeps appearing and disappearing.

Boohoo, he's gone now, Lisa! Back to the blue question mark.
I can see JackieO's avatar, but not gecko's. P'rhaps this is in line to be addressed once they've got the search function resolved. I'm sure it's been a stressful month for the tech team at the boards!
(I'm not on a PC and don't have a mouse, so no "right-click" option for me.)

FWIW Canice, if you hold down your control key when you click, it brings up that contextual menu that PC folks get when they right click. Unfortunately, we Macophiles don't have that "show picture" option. We get "open picture in new window", which takes me to an error screen. Bah.

The same thing happened to me. I just changed mine. I could not figure out what happened to my old one.

I just gave up.
If it's there, it's there and if it's not...well you guessed it, it's not!

My pickle's intermittent. Sometimes he's there and sometimes he's not. I had kinda gotten attached to him.
