Greeting to the visitors to Cooking Light’s Healthful Living and Weekly Workout Support Group as we close in on the end of September. Autumn has come and life begins to look at the end-of-year events on the horizon. But not quite yet, and there really are plenty of things going on among the thread participants (and anyone else who may be lurking). Let’s hope that the coming week leaves us with less nationwide destruction and foul weather so we can try to get our lives back together (if that’s possible in many places in the south). So without further ado, welcome back to both long term and new additions to the community.
The stand out things over the past weeks include:
Family life - Sheri (aka SDMomChef) enjoying her “mom’s night off” and even having her family honor the time for herself (healthy living at its best); Karen’s family doing special things together and DH planning a surprise for her Birthday - WOO HOO!!; Lisa getting reacquainted with her dog and catching up on familial ties while she heals from surgery; my getting ready for Anniversary #22 on Saturday!
SUCCESSES! - Lisa getting stronger every day and being a good patient and not doing too much; Jasmine keeping up with work and getting back into an exercise routine too; my fun triathlon today (even with 4-6 foot breakers at the beach). I know there must be more but it escapes me for now.
Stressful living - Jasmine and the unexpected death of a teaching acquaintance (hard to describe that one well) and being asked to work on more committees (but she did turn one down); Lisa dealing with her cousin‘s lung cancer (on top of hers to boot); Karen “taxi cab” driver, loving mother, too many things going on at once - what else is there to say?.
Healthful living - Lisa listening to her body as she recovers and resting when she needs to; Karen letting her shoulder get better when it’s not quite right; my actually achieving a weight gain goal (yes you read that right - a weight gain goal).
Missing in Action - Leah and Heather - are you all ok? And a howdy to generic if you are lurking still.
Trying to back up the past couple good weeks of exercise I think I’ll get the following workouts in this week:
Sun - triathlon this morning and will rest this afternoon
Mon, Wed, Fri - group exercise at work starting at 6:30
Tuesday and Thursday - probably ride my bike
Friday - rest
Sat - half marathon
Healthful living - (1) be a good boy at the doctor tomorrow (gastroenterologist) trying to “figure me out” yet again. (2) Still more sleep - doing better but still not getting enough and my pace is really starting to take a toll on me by week’s end.
As I said earlier - greetings to any new comers and lurkers out there. I hope all our regulars are doing well and that I haven’t excluded or slighted anyone. Until this evening friends and visitors
Peace,
Les

Hey, Les hope your triathlon went well this morning! Just thinking about it makes me want to take a nap! ;)
Today has been an ok day. I tried to take Penny for a walk but there was this rabbit out there and we only got four houses away from ours. Then the rabbit had the nerve to lay down in our yard for just a few minutes. Needless to say Penny was very interested in the rabbit and less interested in pulling me around. I think I've managed to strain my groin muscle- (long before I got home from the hospital though) it really hurts on the inside of my left leg up to my abdominals. This morning there was pain everywhere which made it very difficult to get back to the house. Since I use icy/hot on my back I think I will use some on my leg to see if it helps. Any other suggestions?
Friday was the first really, really bad day I've had since surgery. Nothing was making me comfortable, everything hurt and I couldn't find a way to make myself feel better. That is the first time I've felt that bad after surgery. I think I was suppose to have one of those days in the hospital but never did.
I did take care of some business on Friday-like getting my fingerprints redone for teaching, and turning in paperwork for more money at school (both in the same place) but I don't think that was the root of the problem. I think it was just time for a day like that. Because of Friday I have taken the weekend much easier.
Goals for this week:
1. working on whatever muscle is hurting in my leg
2. water
3. trying to stay awake for longer periods of time
4. I have to go to school this week because grades are due-but I think I will listen to my body and leave when its ready.
5. getting more walks whenever I can
That's about it. Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

Les-Ahh, come on big guy...they aren't going to ever figure you out!! It would take the fun out of life!! Right?!! Kidding aside, good luck at the GI doc tomorrow. Hope the triathalon came off well for you today, and that you won't be too sore later this week. And just in case I did not mention it yet, once again, thanks for the weekly "kick off!"
We had a good weekend. As you know DH planned a surprise evening last night. He arranged the babysitter as well as a ride for DS#1 to and from his scouting event so we could go out. We went to dinner and a show. It was a very lovely evening. Today I biked and did some abs. I'm taking it easy on the weights still to baby the shoulder whenever I can. The kids went to Sunday school. DS#1 stayed afterwards to participate in the religious school youth group. He had lots of fun. Rest of the afternoon, the kids played outside while I did my usual Sunday cooking to get a head start on the week so I don't end up with nothing for the dinner table on some of our more hectic evenings. :( The kids are now taking their baths and I think DH and I might just watch a movie after they go off to bed. Any excuse to pop some corn...and tonight light the first fire of the season, too!
I hope everyone's weekend was pleasant,
Karen

Les-Ahh, come on big guy...they aren't going to ever figure you out!! It would take the fun out of life!! Right?!!
Oh you aren't kidding, what would my life be if I didn't stump the doctors? ;) So far I've had them throw up their hands on numerous occasions. Especially maddening was going to the hematologist and having him look at my anemia and then telling him I had just run a marathon in 3:21 minutes (that's pretty fast) - to which he commented "most people with good bloodwork can't run that fast." Sometime you just have to love being a science project/protocol tester.
Kidding aside, good luck at the GI doc tomorrow. Hope the triathalon came off well for you today, and that you won't be too sore later this week.
Thanks, I hope something comes of the visit besides either an "I don't know" or "let's do a little exploratory colonoscopy to see what's going on." Neither of which will be very appealing.
And just in case I did not mention it yet, once again, thanks for the weekly "kick off!"

You're welcome. Good for you to rest a little and give yoru shoulder a break. A fire? I don't think we'll be anywhere close to fire weather for quite some time if things keep it up.
I think I've managed to strain my groin muscle- (long before I got home from the hospital though) it really hurts on the inside of my left leg up to my abdominals. Sorry about your groin and the bad day on Friday. Like you said, it's not too bad considering this is the first bad day you've reported to us. I hope it's one of the last if not the last. For your groin, you can use icy/hot as long as the area isn't too sensitive. A plain ice pack will do wonders too as long as you can stand having it on your groin for about 20 minutes. Other than ice/heat there's not much you can do for a groin injury except rest.
I realized that I didn't give my race report when I posted earlier. There is a much longer discussion on the Virtual Running Buddies thread but I will say that I did well in the race. The conditions were quite challenging on the swim. This is the first time I've actually done a swim starting on the beach and going out through the surf before turning to complete the rest of the swim. And to top it off today the conditions would have been great for surfing - 2-4 foot swells with occasional 4-6 foot breakers. The real elites were almost 7 or 8 minutes slow (18 instead of 10-11 minutes) today and I felt that it took almost 5 minutes just to get out of the surf. Once I made the turn it wasn't too bad until trying to exit onto the beach then the return current from the breakers was a little tough to take. I think I was about 8 or 9 minutes slower this time around but felt pretty good once I heard about the "elites." My bike ride was better and faster than last time and my 5k run time was among the fastest runs of the summer - just over 22 minutes. I'm amazed that I can run that quickly after all the swimming and biking but I guess my running is my strength.
Time to turn in - 5 am was really early this morning and tomorrow morning's 6:30 physical training session will come altogether too soon. So I'll sign off and wish you all peace,
Les

Les - sounds like you did an amazing job with the triathalon! Congrats! And you have a half-marathon on Saturday....I admire your stamina!
Lisa - I really hope your groin muscle is feeling better this morning (and that you are overall feeling better today too!). It sounds like you are doing a good job at listening to your body and not overdoing it, so I hope things are back on track for you. Just cursious - what grade do you teach?
Karen - A surprise night out - how fun! LOL - I'm not sure that my husband even could find the phone number for the babysitter! :)
Well, I was 50/50 for my goals last week - I did make it to one of my weight training classes, and the second weight training class I had to miss due to client meetings. I managed to get in as much biking as feasible, so I was happy about that. This week is going to be very tough - I have a lot of meetings, and will be traveling Thursday and Friday for work. So, my realistic goal is to do some form of exercise every day - even if it is just for 10 minutes.
On the healthy living front, the boys have their first boy scout meeting tonight. By way of background, my DH wasn't really interested in boy scouts, but I wanted the boys to be involved in some after-school activity, and they just don't like soccer. Well, the first project/meeting is tonight where they are building rockets and then shooting them off - that got the inner-boy in my DH excited, so he is going to be taking them to scouts tonight. That will leave me with some mommy/daughter time with my DD, and I'm looking forward to that - not sure what we are going to do yet.
Have a great day everybody!

Sheri - Enjoy the mommy and me time tonight. I work with Boy & Girl scouts alot, they're so much to have around.
Les - Congrats on the tri! That swim doesn't sound remotely fun to me but I'm glad to hear you survived it.
Karen - So, where's the movie review? Sounds like you have a wonderful weekend, what a great DH you have!
Lisa - Rabbits and squirrels have shortened many of my walks with Lily...can't they just hide for 30 minutes so we can get a decent walk in?!?
We're still living in drywall dust from our bathroom remodeling job. We hopefully will be able to prime and paint by the end of the week. I've already moved onto picking out paint and fabric for the dining/kitchen area...I think DH has had enough. He's working FT, take 16 credits and working on the house every spare minute! But once he's done sanding I'll take over and do the painting.
Ella is keeping me very busy. She's so much fun to be around, she's in the "terrible 2" age but I don't think it's that terrible! She just cracks me up every day :D. Waiting to see if TTC took this month or not, should know by early next week....keep your fingers crossed.
Happy Monday!

Les-Wow, sounds like you did quite well on Saturday given the rough conditions. Congratulations!
Lisa-I hope your pulled muscle heals quickly. The dog I had as a kid used to love hunting rabbits(terrier family a.k.a. hunters!). Every year we had a mommy rabbit make her nest in a bush outside our front door, and we used to have to protect those babies from the dog.
Sherri-My oldest DS has done cub scouts for several years, and really likes it alot. DH does the camping trips etc... with him every year. They will love the rockets. DS#1 also did that last year with his school class. Enjoy your time with DD.
Sarah-I hope the dust settles soon! A new house is a never ending project! Hope your 2ww is not so bad, and you get a "+" at the end of it! ;) Oh yes, as for the movie...DH rented Stepford Wives last night. It's what I'd call a cute "no brainer." We went to bed way too late with tummies full of popcorn, and I got up way to early! I'll have to hit the hay earlier tonight.
The pool was busy this morning. My swim was decent even though I had to share a lane with the "flailer." :( I went to kickboxing as well, but was dragging a bit by then. This afternoon was bed stripping and cleaning out the kids rooms(getting rid of the old, broken toys etc...). I got alot accomplished in that department, but there is always more.
Tomorrow I'll swim, box, and if motivated, stay for some BBC.
Have a good night,
Karen

Good job last week - 50% for weights isn't bad and you did get your bike rides in so that's a plus. Good luck this week when you travel. Do you travel long distances or do you stay "nearby"? I find it easier to workout when I travel nearby (in my case ~3-4 hours to DC) than when I travel farther away. And that's the right attitude - 10 minutes of workout is better than 0 minutes of workout. It might not seem like much but it will make you feel better so I hope you keep youself to your plan and I know you will - you are a mom. :D
On the healthy living front, the boys have their first boy scout meeting tonight... tonight where they are building rockets and then shooting them off - that got the inner-boy in my DH excited, so he is going to be taking them to scouts tonight. That will leave me with some mommy/daughter time with my DD, and I'm looking forward to that - not sure what we are going to do yet.
That sounds like a great evening - DH getting in touch with the inner child (a great thing to get in touch with in my book) and ladies night in - another great thing. Enjoy your time(s) together and apart.
Les - sounds like you did an amazing job with the triathalon! Congrats! And you have a half-marathon on Saturday....I admire your stamina!
Thanks - I'm not especially sure if it's all stamina or part stamina, part stupidity, and part lunacy. However, if my legs are as heavy on Saturday as they were this morning I doubt I'll be racing the half marathon. Gee I wonder why I had tired legs...
I feel for DH. I know when I painted (primed actually) our bedroom I had to take vacation days just to have time to do it correctly. And yuck sanding drywall. Even the little kid in me doesn't enjoy making that much dust. Moving on, best of luck to you and DH with th "+" indicator. The timing probably couldn't be better with Ella.
Karen - The swim was really special yesterday. It took it's toll on lots of folks but I'm glad I stuck it out. It sounds like you swim today was almost as fun (ok, almost). I hope you get your energy back soon and that you have a great day tomorrow. BTW - when do DS#1 and DS#2 break boards?
As I alluded to earlier, this morning was a little achy and slow for me. I was a little tight in my hamstrings and lats - go figure. I hope to ride tomorrow just to get my legs back into it a little. Doctors appointment - I'm still playing stump the doctor a little. He was perplexed that I could compete in a triathlon based on a lot of my blood work and the sympotms I'm exhibiting. And for the near term I started with two blood tests today (a piece of cake really) and go in for a colonoscopy at the end of next month. :( The doctor doesn't expect to find anything of consequence with the procedure and will hold ou on the blood work - maybe something will be there but I personally don't put a lot of faith in that. In general though the doc commented that I appeared to be in good health and was impressed with my athlete's heart and heart rate.
This turned into more than I expected to post so I'll sign off and see you all in the morning. Until then I hope the rest of our merry band drops by to say Howdy.
Peace,
Les

Good morning!
LEs, I hope that all the blood tests come back fine. Sometimes there is nothing as much fun as playing with a doctor's mind! I too had blood work done yesterday, my monthly work. It will be interesting to see how the results turn out. I was also suppose to get another set of standing orders from a different doctor's office done except the lab lost the standing orders. :( So now I have to go through the process of getting the doctor's office to send new orders and then pick a day to not eat breakfast and go again. Very annoying!
Yesterday turned out to be a pretty good day. The staff at school gave me money to have a cleaning lady come in. What a relief to have a clean house again. I can do some of the things like dusting and vaccuming, but the mopping of the floors and cleaning the bathrooms is still a little beyond me. I think my mood improved just because the house smelled and looked better! Then the cable guy came and set up high speed internet for me. Penny couldn't figure out who to go watch the cleaning lady or the cable guy! Hopefully this new internet will help when I go back to classes. After that my brother and sister-in-law brought me a baker's rack, and a recliner (what a nice chair!!! :D ) and rearranged some of my furniture. It's nice to have someone else come in and show you a new perspective. I like what they did. After that we went to lunch, and when we got home I realized that I had locked myself out of the house. I forgot to pick up my house keys out of the bowl I keep them in. So my brother had to climb the fence into the back yard and come through my door in the bedroom- it was unlocked.. That was quite the adventure! I tried to take a nap after all that, but found that I was tired but not enough to go to sleep. So I managed to stay up for most of the day. I did go to bed at 7:30 though!
Today there a few errands I need to run and then it's back home. Hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

Les-Hope the stiff joints work themselves out quickly this week. Crossing my fingers for you on boring bloodwork, too. FYI, the boys break their boards this Sunday. They will probably have ~100 each!
Lisa-Glad to hear your day was better, but what an adventurous one. Never a boring moment, huh!!??
The pool was busy again today. My swim was very good, however. It definetely helped clear a few cobwebs from the brain this morning as my alarm went off in the middle of some intense dreaming. Unfortunately, a few of those webs creeped back as the day progressed. I went to kickboxing, but the rest of the day I kept pretty mellow. DD had ballet and jazz this evening. She loves this class(phew!). Now she wants to take gymnastics(as does DS#2). What next!!!???
Anyway, tomorrow DH is off so he'll assist with the school/activity run-around. I plan on swimming and kicking. Also gotta do my weekly grocery run in the afternoon.
That's it here. Have a good one,
Karen

I'm glad to hear that things are going well and that people really care about you. That was something special for you teacher friends to hire a cleaning service - I'm sure that felt great as did the new and rearranged furniture. It sounds like you are getting your strength back little by little another good sign. :D You only know half of the "stump the doctors" routine - I'm a walking enigma (hence the tag line) who shouldn't be able to do half of the things I do with blood work like I have (anemia and liver enzymes out of spec). But I certainly hope that this round shows something - anything. Frustrating about the missed tests because of the admin mix up. Take care
Karen - I think my legs and lats are finally talking to me on pleasant terms - a sign I must have pushed it a little harder than I imagined on Sunday. Breaking 100 boards? That seems like a lot, but how many will they do at one time? Have a productive Wednesday.
I forgot to post my pix from the race the other day. I'm impressed with a couple shots and really like the montage and I was surprised how many pictures (http://www.triduo.com/searchraceresults.php?race_id=1141&bib=17&s=e) I had in the portfolio. How about the "sexy" hairdo? I think I'll wear my hair like that more often. Then there's "Aquaman" or the contemplitive shot of me sitting in the second transition on my bucket. I have no idea what I was thinking about but it probably wasn't that deep. I had a good (albeit short) ride today but then my legs were a little testy still. But it looks like tomorrow will be back to normal (I hope). With that I need to sign off because tomorrow will be another 6:30 run fest and who knows what.
Peace and pleasant dreams,
Les

Les-Great pictures!!!! :) Glad to hear your "getting back to normal." And the boys will probably break 1-3 boards at a time up to 100 or until they get tired.
I had an excellent swim this morning. The pool was much quieter, too. My kickboxing class was also excellent. I felt like I had my vim and vigor back today! Yeah! :) DH was off so he helped me with the bus runs/religious school carpooling etc... so I was able to do the grocery shopping in the afternoon.
Tomorrow's plans will be determined as the day progresses(aside from a swim, of course ;) ).
Have a good evening,
Karen

I don't know what would be worse karen having kids that are couch potatos and didn't ever do anything or having kids that were busy and out and about all the time. Really, I think it's great that all your kids are very active (at least for the most part). And not only good but healthy too. It's also nice the DH does help when he's off and that he actually has days off during the week to be able to help with the kids. 100 boards 1-3 at a time - that sounds pretty intense but doable. If you don't mind, how much are your kids getting for breaking boards? You sound a lot more perky this evening, like you've finally found your energy again -- great deal. May your day tomorrow be a fine and fruitful day whatever you do (after swimming).
It looks like I'm pretty much back to my old self - but it did take 3 full days after the tri. Am I getting old? ;) I ran this morning with the group at work and my legs and arms actually felt normal, you can't beat that can you? Tomorrow's another day and it should be fun (pretty much kidding).
Hoping to hear a "howdy do" from some of our quieter folks out there. Are you home Leah, Heather, Laura K, and others?
Hope your days on the down-side of the week are good and productive for all.
Peace,

I'm here although in lots of pain. Not my abdomen, but the muscle that goes up the side of my left leg heading towards my abdomen. Man it hurts! :( Laying down seems like it makes it hurt even more, so I ended up sleeping in a chair which is fine although there is a small kkink in my neck. It hurts to do anything that involves moving. Ice didn't help last night nor did the icy/hot about the only thing that worked is tylenol at 3am although it is starting to wear off. Too soon to take anything else. I'm going to call a doctor or maybe all of them when the offices open up to see what can be done. It ached a little as I moved around at school yesterday but not too bad, apparently I'm paying for it now. Any suggestions? I'm ready to break down and take some of my pain medication just to get some relief.
Going to work yesterday was ok although by the end of three hours I was fried and ready to leave. I didn't get a lot accomplished however did start on my grades. I was afraid I would have to spend a lot of time at school on Friday doing grades but found out that the district has decided that the grading period doesn't end until Oct. 7th. Yea! If I am feeling better tomorrow I will go in for a couple of hours in the afternoon.
Well I'm going to limp back to my chair. Have a nice Thursday.

That's an odd place to have pain - your leg heading towards your abdomen. One of the things I think of with pain like that is your hip flexor. I've aggrevated mine in the past and the only thing that helped was a lot of stretching, hot packs/heating pad to keep it loose, and pain meds. But with your recent surgery I'd have to wonder about a connection with your incision and possible inflamation of one of the muscles/tendons at the top of your leg. I recommend seeing a doctor and maybe trying to get some physical therapy prescribed to help stretch out.
It sounds like you tried to do a little too much yesterday but in general you're getting stronger - a great thing to hear from you.
I hope your day is better and that you take it easy and listen to your body.
Peace,
Les

Lisa-{{{Lisa}}}} So sorry you are in pain. Don't be a martyr, either. If the pain is bad, take a pain pill. Also, not to be an alarmist, but I have to agree with Les about seeing someone to make sure it is not something more serious(infection, DVT etc...). Keep us updated. I'm sending my prayers to you.
Les-Regarding the boards the boys are breaking...as you may(or may not) recall this is a "Board Break-a-thon" to raise money for Katrina. For every dollar someone sponsors them, they get one board to break. Of course, the owner of the Tae Kwon Do school is reminding the kids that they don't necessarily have to break ALL of their boards(as the more they break, the more $$$ he shells out of pocket since all the proceeds go to the Red Cross!). My guys, however, are gung-ho about breaking all of their boards, but we'll see if they really do on Sunday.
I'm glad your "old self" is back again. You are not getting older, Les...just wiser...and don't forget that! ;)
I had a good day. The pool was quiet again, and I even got my own lane for the majority of my swim. Getting the kids off to school turned out to be a bit rocky this morning. DS#1 is having some "teacher issues." Actually the "issues" are more likely with him, but he does not see that...yet! Anyway, called his teacher today who had a talk with him, and later called me back. For now things are ironed out, but he's a toughy. Very stubborn(like his mommy and daddy ;) ). Decided to bike later in the morning to unwind from the school bus scene, and did some abs. This afternoon as the rain was pouring and the wind wasa whipping fiercely outside, I made a big pot of chili!
Tomorrow I plan on boxing along with my swim. May get a haircut, too, if I can squeeze it in early.
Have a good evening everyone,
Karen
Where O where is Leah, JackieO??? Come out, come out where ever you are. Just hope you are all doing well.

And a howdy to generic if you are lurking still.
Yep, still lurking! ;) Last week I had a nice chatty message written up commending all of you on your efforts and telling a little about myself. When I hit "submit reply", the screen froze up and my post disappeared into the ethers! I was very upset, because it's hard on my back/neck/shoulders to write long computer messages, and I didn't have the heart to rewrite it. You'll notice when I post on other threads my messages are usually fairly pithy. So next time, I'll put it in a wordpad document and paste it in!

Les-Regarding the boards the boys are breaking...as you may(or may not) recall this is a "Board Break-a-thon" to raise money for Katrina... My guys, however, are gung-ho about breaking all of their boards, but we'll see if they really do on Sunday.
I seem to remember that they are signed up to help Katrina relief - what a great cause. I'm rooting for them to break a bunch of boards too. maybe...
I'm glad your "old self" is back again. You are not getting older, Les...just wiser...and don't forget that! ;)
I'll take wiser. I also think I worked a little harder than I imagined or planned on Sunday. But then again I did get caught up in the event and had a great time.
I had a good day... and I even got my own lane for the majority of my swim... DS#1 is having some "teacher issues."... For now things are ironed out, but he's a toughy. Very stubborn (like his mommy and daddy ;) ).
Where O where is Leah, JackieO??? Come out, come out where ever you are. Just hope you are all doing well.
Yep - a stubborn little guy isn't he? I hope he "sees the light" before he gets in hot water with the teacher. I too wonder about Leah and Jackie O.
Yep, still lurking! ;) Last week I had a nice chatty message written up commending all of you on your efforts and telling a little about myself.
I figured you were out there - and I'm glad to hear you're ok and still doing what you can. I understand losing a post - luckily most of the time my long posts just disconnect from the dial up connection and don't lose the message.
But about today and my day... I ran my last real run of the week before Saturday's half-marathon at lunch today. It felt pretty good but I convinced myself I do need to take it easy tomorrow. If there's an up for the race on Saturday - it starts at 8:45 (such a gentlemanly hour  ) I may get to sleep in a little before heading out to the race. One can only hope. Why? Because I realized today that I haven't had a late rise day in just about 2 weeks (last Sunday - before the triathlon) was the last sleep in morning. 11 days in a row on about 5-5 1/2 hours sleep is starting to wear a little thin.
Sleep - that's what this body needs so off to never never land. Until tomorrow prayers and good thoughts to all those in need and those who have requested special prayers - especially Lisa and her pain, I hope the pain is better today. Until morning...
Peace,
Les

Quickie today as I have to say goodbye to DH soon(he's going to a conference on Long Island over the weekend), and drag the kids in from outside as it's getting dark. I had an excellent swim this morning. I got a bunch of errands done this morning before kickboxing class as well. Class was very good. My energy is definetely better at the moment. This afternoon I cooked up a tasty pasta dish for dinner with chicken and sundried tomato pesto. Tonight is cub scouts for DS#1. I have to go pick up DS#1 and friend at 8PM.
Tomorrow I will squeeze in my bike ride earlier than usual as I'm going to do the Tae Kwon Do and swimming run around with the kids since DH won't be home until tomorrow night. Sunday is our board break-a-thon(after religious school) as well as the annual book sale at our local library(a great deal!!).
Have a good weekend everyone,
Karen

Karen, your weekend sounds really busy but fun! Gook luck to the boys as they break those boards.
Yesterday was a horrible, horrible day. At one point I was running a fever although it is gone today. Finally my doctor called me back today, well actually I called them back and they called in a muscle relaxer for me. I haven't taken it yet because I want to check it with my kidney doctor first.
Being fairly inactive and tylenol seems to be working for now.
I called the school today to tell them I can't start back to work next week. Amazingly my leg seemed to ache much less after that! I never thought I was doing too much, however I guess my body didn't agree. Anyway there's no way I can go back to teach if I can't walk very well or stand for any length of time. I will just have to go in sometime towards the end of the week for grades since they are due next Friday.
No exercise, but I guess listening to my body and staying quiet is pretty good healthy living. I'm trying to increase my water intake since my labs came back a little out of whack and they think I might be dehydrated a little.
Hope everyone enjoys their weekends.

YIKES! I'm glad you finally got hooked up with your doctor. As the nurse who gave LW my post-op instructions after my lymph node biopsy told her "don't let him think he's he man. Make him take his pain medication for at least a couple days... (vicodin BTW)" As much as I shy away from medicating the pain away I was appreciative of the meds. So I guess I'm saying - if you think you need the meds then take them - you earn nothing toughing it out except pain.

Not amazing - that's your body talking to you and your mind knowing what is causing it problems. I'd say a pretty clear signal in my book. How much more time off can you take? Regardless work will still be there when you get back.

That's good - listen to your body and let it get better. Plus I'll send water your way ok? Anything to keep your blood work in spec. And you have a great weekend too, ok?
Then there's Karen the "one armed paper hanger" and the kids for the day tomorrow. I hope DH has a good time at his conference even if he's abandoning you to the kids. ;) Good luck to DS#1 and DS#2 breaking borads on Sunday. How much are they sponsored for anyway? And enjoy the book sale - those are always fun.
Well, a little dragging but feeling better. Getting ready to turn in and sleep in a little since I don't have to get up and leave the house until about 7 am tomorrow - which means about 45 minutes extra sleep. I did run today (11 workouts in 12 days - another reason I'm a little tired I bet). Nothing astronomical - just 3 miles - but it was nice to go out in the 65 degree temps. Fall is finally here! :D
Until tomorrow - have a great weekend and peace,
Les

I guess I'll close out the week with a Saturday report. I had a great day... :D I got to sleep in (YEAH!). We had a productive day at the race - the lady I was pacing came in at 1:45:35 (our goal was 1:45) so I call that a win. The conditions were great - it would only have been better if the temp had been about 10 degrees cooler at the start but still it was in the low 60's when we got going so that's a bonus. There was little wind and no clouds in the sky. You could see the James River Fleet [aka the Ghost Fleet] (a bunch of old decommissioned Navy and military ships in "mothballs" waiting either to be scrapped) on the calm river - what a glorious sight. We got started a little fast (pace was 8 min/mile) at 7:24 but fell off a little as the race progressed. It ends up the lady was having a little GI issue so I can only imagine what was really going on with her (and she didn't say anything before we started  ). The race felt great and my legs were happy. I think I could have run faster (I know I could have) but stayed with my "charge" to make sure she got in as close to goal as she could. To top it off we (my running group) took home a little hardware - (all age group awards) 1 first place, 1 second place, and 2 third places. Top that off with a couple PRs and it was a great day.
Now for the remainder of the great day - LW and I celebrated our 22nd Anniversary today. A card when she woke up this morning, presents when she comes home from work, and dinner. Oh, did I forget a dozen long stem red roses (actually 8 red ones and 4 "hocus pocus" {mostly red} ones because the florist only had 8 red ones). She only gets red roses once a year (by mutual agreement - that makes them special). And she was really surprised by the presents I got her - a couple nifty pins and a pair of unique heart-shaped earrings. After that we had a great evening - pretty low key for dinner. Extravagant isn't important in our books rather the pleasure of our mutual company. Not much more interesting news to post so I'll call it for the night - until tomorrow hope everyone is having a great weekend.
Peace,
Les
