Ok Ok I admit it I am a cooking magazine junky. I suppose it isn't as bad as some of the vices I could have. however, I am discriminating --- In that light does anyone get Cuisine and what is there opinion of it?

Thanks

Jas

I get Cuisine, and I like it very much. I like that they have "different" recipes, and everything is from scratch (unlike that Taste of Home magazine that I dislike). Their recipes aren't really low-fat, so I don't use them all that often, but the ones I have tried have been very, very successful. I especially like all the pictures and techniques. I have every issue.

Yes I do get CI although it seems as if they often feature beef, lamb, and pork (all of which I don't eat) so I read the magazine but rarely cook from it.

jb, I just ordered the Free Trial Issue on their web site. I'm looking forward to receiving it. (Cooks Illustrated)

I got once a complimentary issue of Cuisine, although I think it was a bit thin, I liked the articles. I love Cooks Illustrated. I enjoy their thorough tests until they perfect a recipe. I also enjoy their reviews of kitchen tools and admire Christopher Kimball's passion for cooking. I also subscribe to Bon Apetit and Martha Stewart Living and even if each issue doesn't give me a lot of recipes that I may use, I still get pleasure from reading those magazines. Guess I'm a cooking magzine junky too. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I just received my trial of Cook's Illustrated today. A nice treat for my day off once I finish putting my groceries away and do a little "housework".

I love cooking magazines. They fill our den, and have overflowed into our garage. I also have boxes of past issues stored in a warehouse!

I've been subscribing to Bon Appetit and Gourmet for years. Bon Appetit is my favorite--I've never had a recipe from BA fail. I try more than several recipes from every issue.

My interest in Gourmet has been sliding. They have great travel essays, but a year or so ago they changed their format to put more emphasis on the people behind the recipes, instead of the actual recipes. Again, I've always had success with their recipes.

I've subscribed to Cook's Illustrated--found it didn't appeal to me. Also subscribed to Saveur for several years. I found most of recipes were more involved that I'd like and the results were hit and miss. I'm a person that will spend 8 hours cooking for a dinner party and found their recipes too intailed.
Also subscribed to Food and Wine for a couple of years. I wasn't using many or their recipes,so discontinued.

Friends have recommended Taste of Home Magazine to me, but it seems to have a lot of processed food and recipes that don't fit our lifestyle.

I like Bon Appetit very much and I also like Taste of Home.
After years and years of being a loyal subscriber to Gourmet I gave up my subscription. They sure made a mistake with the new editor they have. Everyone is complaining about that magazine going downhill.

I too am a junkie......

I love Cuisine, I have had a subscription since the very beginning and I have always enjoyed it. I like that each issue is basically one "fancy" meal from start to finish. So if you are a person who only goes out of your way once a month or so, then they have a great meal to try out.

They recently had some potato dishes, and the one I made a layered potato and leek, was fabulous, and I have NEVER made a bad dessert recipe from Cuisine.

I also like Fine Cooking and Cooks Illustrated, they are great keepers too!!

When your pantry is filled with food magazines instead of food--guess it's time to confess to your addiction. I too, am a food magazine junkie! I don't smoke, I don't go out drinking, and I don't spend my money on shoes. I treat myself to food magazines. It's been a true pleasure for as long as I can remember. I read the magazines articles and recipes like someone would read a good novel. I regret to say, that in a moment of insanity, and an attempt to curb my addiction, I foolishly threw out hundreds of issues of numerous magazines. Bon Appetit, Gourmet, you name it all went to the city dump. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif Some of the collection dated back to 1980. What was I thinking?? (obviously possessed) I stopped myself at 1990--phewww!

Some of my most favourite magazines to devour are: Bon Appetit, Cooking Light, and Chocolatier(OMG!!!--this one puts me in a trance--I swear I'm drooling like Homer Simpson and uttering..OoOoOoOoOoOo..CHoCoLaTe with each turn of a page). Oh no! I think I need a Hershey's York Bites fix.

I subscribe to way too many magazines to name. I really only should keep 2 or 3 of them. As they come up for renewal, I will not re-subscribe. CL is definitely a keeper!

I've been a subscriber to Bon Appetit since 1982. I've kept all the issues and sort them by month ( all the Januaries together etc), so that I can find something seasonally appropriate for whatever month I'm in. I didn't like the old Gourmet, and I guess I'm in the minority because I do like the new one but I only pick it up on the newsstand if it's got something interesting - they had a great devil's food cake in the Feb 2000 issue that I've made monthly ever since. I've been subscribing to CL for a couple of years, they're sorted in with the Bon Appetit by month and year, just a little anal. A supper club co-member recommended Cuisine last September and I just sent in my subscription after three issues from the newsstand. It's a great niche within cooking mags - short, with great recipes, a few easy tips, and NO ADS. Unfortunately, I'm far too susceptible to the covers of the special interest magazines at the grocery, "Holiday Cookies" etc. but they're never that good, although they're also sorted into the December section.

How do you guys find the time to play on this BB, cook, and read all those mags?!?!
Does Cuisine have a website? I would like to check it out.

I browsed Through Cook's Illustrated this past week. It's a new "trial" subscription for me. I have to say, I liked it in that it was different, no adds and a "consumer report" type sections. I'll probably end up paying for a year and see what I think. It's hard to decide on one issue.
