HELP! http://www.pjrc.com/jta/cry.gif

I am going crazy w/ the "My Cookbook" feature of the CL website! I LOVE the idea of it... if only I could get it to work!!!

I have had the recipes disappear several times now! I just start getting a nice "collection" and then <bam!> ...there they go! ALL GONE!!! (Except the 3 "sample recipes", they are always there.)

I wonder why they don't have us "log in" w/ a user name or ID, plus a password. I'm a computer idiot but that seems to make sense to me!

(BTW, I do have my browser set to accept cookies.)

But anyway - is anyone else having this problem? Or are you all just doing fine and happily enjoying "My Cookbook"?!!

Thanks!
Lynn

I had the same thing happen this weekend and thought I had done something wrong but maybe it wasn't me.....[

Are you using the same computer each time you log in? I think they use a cookie system to recognize who you are, so it will only work if you use the same computer each time.

Hmm, I will have to check mine. I wonder if it has to do with the problems with their website last week.

I just checked - it looks like they are all there.

I read about "My Cookbook" in the CL newsletter but I haven't been able to find it...use it...or anything. Can you guys give me some pointers on how to get this started?

I am hoping this is a good way to help me organize and keep track of my many TO TRY recipes.

Julie,
Good question, and YES! I am using the same computer each time! But that does bring up the issue that if you were somewhere else, you would NOT be able to access your cookbook. (No going to a girlfriend's house and wanting to peek at it! OH NO!!!) (Not that BEING AT HOME is any great shakes at this point, either, though!!!) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Anyway, I really think there is a MAJOR BUG in that program! I have even e-mailed the Personalogic (?) folks that apparently run the program. (That was Maelynn's suggestion)There is a place to click on "Help" near the bottom. Maybe if more of us do that (complain!) they will work a little harder/faster to fix it?!!

I still think if they implement a log-in, password feature that would eliminate the problem, PLUS we could access it from anywhere! And that's not such a pain, is it? I mean, we do that everywhere else. IMHO, what's REALLY a pain is the !@#$ disappearing recipes!!!

cjm,
Go to the CL website and there is a link that says "My Cookbook". Supposedly you should be able to access their entire database of recipes and choose the ones you want to keep in your personal online "cookbook" (used to be called "Recipe Box" - I never used that, don't know if it was any better at not losing recipes?!!) Anyway, you should be able to easily add or remove recipes, etc. (Plus rate recipes, read others' ratings, add personal notes, and even add your own other recipes in, etc... the last 2 features I have also found quite dissapointing!) It really has the potential to be a great resource to save/sort/store favorite and "to try" recipes -- but, as you all know by now - I have had LOUSY SUCCESS w/ it!!!!

I'm glad it's not just me having problems. I was starting to feel like a real moron! I hope to hear from others, too, about how it's working for them. (funnybone, keep checking! Not to be negative here - but your recipes could disappear at any time, I think!)

Maelynn, if you're listening - could you please put a bug in their ear, too?!! You don't want us going POSTAL, do you?! You know, we do have (a few, small) quirks and phobias, (but that's another thread!!!) and this could possibly send us (me, anyway!) right over the edge! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif Anyway, MANY THANKS!!!

Lynn

PS Ohboy... now THIS was a tangent!

Same thing happened to me, not once, but TWICE! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif
I was really disappointed, and have given up on using that feature. Now I just print the recipes or copy and paste them into my computer where I then put them into a recipe file or Mastercook.
Very frustrating.

Interesting that this has had no "official" response, but I too lost all my recipes and it's made me really mad!! I don't really remember what they were, but I want them back!!

This happened to me about five times. I have finally given up on using it. It's just too frustrating. I also e-mailed the personlogic people, but to no avail.

I really wish they would fix it! Argh!

I also noticed a bunch (but not all) missing...

I think a password log-in for the feature is an excellent idea. Epicurious has this feature with their "My Recipe File" and I have yet to lose a recipe! I like to clear the Temporary Internet Files folder and I do not want to have to search out the cookies for the CL site just so I don't lose "My Cookbook". Unless they make a change, it's a feature I'll stay away from. I don't need anymore frustrations in my life. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Another thing to keep in mind---If you have a program on your computer that regularly purges your "Temporary Internet Files", your cookie for the CL recipe file will also be deleted. I suspect that may be happening to some of you.

I also think the password suggestion is a good idea. I don't use the recipe file because I regularly delete my cookies from my computer, so I know I would lose my file.
