OK guys, is velveeta freezable  ? I like to buy velveeta to use as a base for cheese dip. My husband always wonders why I buy only one block. I told him that I am not sure it is freezable, hence, I do not want it to spoil if I have it in the refridgerator too long. :(

Well, regular shredded cheese is freezable, but being Velveeta is pretty, um, processed, I would guess no.
That said, if you have 8 oz, I have a Cheeseburger Soup recipe that you can use it up in. ;)

I'm not sure you can put it in the freezer, but I'm also not sure Velveeta can spoil! ;) Isn't it found in the unrefrigerated aisles of the grocery store? I would think that stuff would last forever.

I have never seen Velveeta marketed from the dairy case, it's always on the shelf with the little cheese & crackers sealed up with the little red plastic "knife". I imagine that it lasts quite a while on the shelf unopened, so there would be no real need to freeze it, other than it feels wierd to keep cheese in the pantry. There should be an expiration date on the package to guide you.

From Velveeta
We do not recommend that you freeze VELVEETA Pasteurized Process Cheese Product. Freezing VELVEETA Pasteurized Process Cheese Product may cause changes in the texture of the cheese. Crystals may form within the product which may make it grainy, or its texture to become mushy. Freezing can also break down the ingredients used to make the cheese. This may cause water to form on the surface of the product. Freezing can also negatively impact the flavor.
Once opened, VELVEETA should be stored in the refrigerator.
Unopened Velveeta does not need to be refrigerated. Once opened it should be refrigerated. As for freezing: Cut off a small chunk of Velveeta, freezer wrap it, and freeze. Then you will know, exactly what what changes have occurred.

Thank you! I knew if I came here, I could find an answer.
HealthyinMN, thank you for that information. Since I didn't know, and didn't know exactly where to find out, I appreciate your knowledge.
BTW: where did you locate it?

BTW, that cheeseburger soup freezes well -- even the potatoes weren't mushy.
