I have posted a similar request before with little result, but am getting desparate. Having Dad's 80th Bday party here this weekend. The suggestions I got previously were to check out some websites. I did and tried a chocalate cake and it was terrible. Tasted like cardboard. (I confess to whoever referred me to the Equal site, it was off the Diabetic Assoc. site) I felt so sorry for my Dad, who is being so good on his diet, but he is getting tired of the sugar free jello and ice cream they serve him at the retirement home and longs for a decent interesting dessert. Of course, he is 80 and Southern, so pouched pears or similar things are just not going to do it. It would have to be a cake or some other ordinarily rich dessert. Has anyone had anything they have actually tried? I would be forever in your debt and so would my Father.

Thank you in advance for anyone who can help me out.
Beth

I was probably the one who referred you to the website for Equal. My DH is diabetic. We have found that chocolate desserts to tend to be dry and have the taste of carboard. Equal's recipes are tested before posted, so you're almost guaranteed good results. I've made the pumpkin desserts, the cherry pie, the cheesecake and the raspberry almond squares. To me and other non diabetics they were defintely missing something. Yet my DH and nephew who has Juvenille Diabetes ( He's 9 years old) they seemed to love them. I think when you're diabetic you're taste buds must become altered. Try that webiste and let me know. Good Luck!!

Try the Orange Creamscicle dessert at www.dottisweightlosszone.com (http://www.dottisweightlosszone.com) Go to message boards, choose desserts, make sure your browser is set to show recipes for past year and it should show up. It is a mixture of sugar free no fat yogurt and sugar free orange gelatin put into a crumb crust and topped with whipped cream or Cool Whip Lite.
I personally donn't like Cool Whip, and would prefer to have a timy bit of real whipped cream. Very tasty, can be frozen if desired.

I have also prepared sugar free Angel Food Cake (you can get them already made at Wal-Mart),crumbled into a glass oblong dish, and topped with sugar free pudding mix in french vanilla or banana cream flavor (takes about 2-3 boxes of mix. Just reduce the amount of milk slightly as shown on the directions for pie instead of pudding. Slice about 3 bananas, add a well drained can of pineapple, or some fresh strawberries or peaches, and you have a tasty treat.
Good luck!

Thanks to Leonard and Violan. This is just the type of stuff I am looking for. Leonard, I was looking at the cheesecake and the blueberry pie. The pie recipe looks much like the pie I make, just using Equal rather than sugar (and I don't put much sugar in my pie anyway, just top with ice cream!). I figure, with a pie, I can use sugar free ice cream for Dad and regular for the rest of us.

I need all the recipes/suggestions I can get, so keep 'em coming! Thanks in advance!

I made a sugar free chocolate mousse that was prepared from a mix (Sans Sucre, I think?) for a diabetic friend once. I know that's not a lot of fun and won't appeal to the food snobs, but it was worth trying. We all had it and her young non-diabetic son even requested it again. It might not be what you want for a special birthday, but keep it in mind for a change of pace....even to use up some of that sugar free angel food cake in a different way.

How about a trifle with sugar free pudding, sugar free angel food cake, and lots of yummy fresh fruit?
