Hi everyone,

Thought I'd start this week's Klatch since Samantha is taking a (rare!) nap.

It's pouring down rain today, and is supposed to last all day, so we really don't have any plans for the day.

Jerry gets home from Japan tomorrow afternoon. He sold our PSU tickets this week, so we'll just catch the game on TV tomorrow night. The town is so wired for this game - students have been camping at the stadium since Monday! ESPN's Game Day is broadcasting from here this weekend, so it should be fun to watch.

Leigh - Jerry's headed your way first thing Monday morning! Next Friday is Sam's 2nd bday. We got her a Little Tykes kitchen set. It's so cute and I can't wait for her to see it.

Peggy C - I've been thinking about you this week and hoping your dad is doing better!

Have a great weekend everyone!

SueK--with all due respect, Jerry shouldn't have sold those tickets. PSU vs OSU? That's a great matchup! Undefeated vs 1 loss and perennial contender? I'll take them, regardless of weather. Hope he at lost got a fistful of dollars for them...

This weekend is nothing special...my sister in law volunteered to watch the munchkins so my wife and I are going to go to a local watering hole during gametime, and presumably get hammered. It's been several years since we've drinken to excess, and I'm frankly looking forward to it. We'll come home to a house devoid of children for the first time in 2+ years, as they'll be spending the night. Don't come a knockin' 'cause we'll be arockin'!

On Sunday we'll pick up the boys and probably head out to a cider mill for donuts and, well, cider. Probably also some cheese and summer sausage to boot. I think we'll make a day of it and go to the park and feed ducks afterwards.... the boys will really like that, and it will be a nice, low-key day.

Oh, I'm also excited because I recieved the Roman Trooper's helm I ordered a few weeks ago--I collect costume Arms and Armor. Here's a pic:

(not entirely historically accurate, but great for display)

Escher - have fun with your child-free time this weekend! :)

I am really surprised that Jerry did sell the tickets. He sold them before PSU won last week (which we weren't expecting ;) ) but he said he'd probably be fried from jet lag and since he heads back out Mon morning, he passed on the game. I'm sure he's kicking himself though, now that they won last week! :)

Good morning Escher and Sue!

Sue with your weather report I am sure we are having the washout weekend they've predicted. The Red Sox will win tonight and that'll put tomorrow's game into a bind.

Escher I know what you mean about not going out drinking to excess in so long. Kids'll definitely do that to you!

I got my new (to me) Jeep on the road on Tuesday. It's much smaller inside than my old Jeep since I went from the older squared-off style to the new rounder look. However it's really nice to have the bells and whistles working - like the side mirror defrosts and the A/C. It feels much more like a car than a 4WD so I hope I feel as safe in it as I did in my old Jeep come wintertime. Buying it from a private seller was so nice and slime-free I will never go to a dealer again.

The Jeep doubled as my birthday present since my birthday was yesterday. We didn't plan it that way but it really doesn't make sense to spend a lot of money on presents after you've just bought a car!

Tonight's commute home will be awful - a holiday Friday plus rain (maybe) plus the Red Sox game starting at 4. It's like the Perfect Storm of Traffic. I usually drive on the main road to Fenway to get home and I'm definitely altering my route tonight - and it'll take even longer!

Hi all!

Thanks for starting the Klatch Sue! We had lots of fighting before school this morning, and I had to pick up a prescription at the grocery store so I had to wait until 9am. At least I'm all done now! :D

We've got rain here too and it's made getting Mariel to school in the mornings a bear! Ginger's got a game tomorrow and the forcast is for cloudy and a high of 72. Last week our highs were in the mid to upper 80's. I'm going to try to get my dad to come up for Ginger's game. Poor thing....Al's parents said they wanted to come to a game, but the season's half over and they haven't been up yet. Ginger's quit asking if any of her grandparents are going to come see her play.

Sue,
You & the girls should come with Jerry sometime! Happy Birthday to Sam!!! I'm sure she'll love her kitchen. My girls loved playing kitchen at that age.

Escher,
Enjoy your child free weekend! Your Sunday at the park sounds fun too, but don't eat too many doughnuts. :D :D

Loren,
Happy Birthday! I'm glad you like your jeep.

Escher, Enjoy your kid free time with your wife. My DH and I haven't had that in a long time. No one will take all 3 kids at once, LOL. Also, the baby is still a little young to go over night away from home.

However, Wednesday I leave till Sunday night. My mom and I are going on our annual trip to a Scrapbook retreat in WI. DH is home with all 3 kids from Wednesday afternoon till late Sunday night. I feel sorry for him, as I know it is hard and he isn't used to it. He will enjoy the time with the kids though. I will have a good time, but I am already stressed about leaving the baby, I haven't ever been away from him.

This weekend is busy. Tomorrow is the harvest party at our CSA which raps up the season and is a lot of fun. Then I have to get ready for my trip and do all the pre-trip projects, list for DH, etc. Sunday is our monthly Sunday school session. Plus homework for DD and other errands/chores.

It is cold here, went from near 90 degrees to 80 yesterday to high 50's today. Had to crank the heat up. I love MI, but really hate the cold.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Loren - glad you had a nice bday. Enjoy the new Jeep!

Leigh - this was the first week in I can't tell you how long that Sara and I actually got along before school! I was a bit stressed this morning cause she was being so slow, but I breathed a sigh of relief to get through a week w/no morning arguments!

Lisa - enjoy your time away! I"m sure your DH will be fine with the kids. It's good for the dads to have to fly solo with them some time. I'm going to the Fiery Foods Festival in NM next March and DH is staying home with the girls. I am already looking forward to time away. :)

Sue,
Well I did oversleep this morning, but it wasn't just me fighting with the girls. It was them fighting with each other. They wouldn't stop talking to eat their breakfast, fought while doing their hair and teeth, ginger was complaining about her shoes and kept trying to play with the cat before she ready.

GRRRR!!!!

Lisa,
Enjoy your time away, and try not to miss the kids too much.

Checking in from the left coast.

Not much planned around here. Michael has an away game and I truthfully don't feel up to fighting the traffic to watch him stand on the sidelines ;) His dad is going so there will be some family there to cheer him on if he plays.

Escher - enjoy your weekend. Both days sound like fun ;)

I'm sorry for all of you that have fights in the mornings. Since Michael usually isn't out of bed until AFTER I drop Alex, the mornings are relatively peacefully at my house (if you don't count my nagging to get moving).

Sue - Its hard to believe that Sam will be 2 already.

Loren - enjoy the car and Happy Belated Birthday

Hey guys!! The boys have a 4 day weekend b/c of Columbus day ??? - and at 9am they immediately declared themselves bored!!! It's pouring here too and we're dusting off the canoe so we can go float in our back yard!!!

Sue - We are GLUED to the tv tomorrow. My parents are going and are soooo excited!!! We have several PSU and Michigan fans in our neighborhood so I'm hosting a big party for next week's game!!

Leigh - ahhhhh fights. Gotta love the sibling love ;) Especially when you're trying to get everyone out the door!!

Loren - I'm rooting for the Red Sox!!! I loved Francona when he was with the Phillies!! :) Hope the commute home is ok! Also happy belated birthday!!!

Tyra - I don't blame you not wanting to fight traffic. As long as he has family there it should be fine. How's the team doing this year?

Lisa - my grandmother lives in Iowa and she was telling me about the extreme drop in weather!!! I'm waiting for it to happen here - it's sooo sticky and humid right now my fingers are sticking to the keys!!! Have a great scrapbooking time!!

Escher - that helmet is cool. And I love cider donuts. Have a great time with you wife and then with the kids!

Charisse - the team is 3 - 1 (with a very close loss of 41-35 in last week's game). Unfortunately they are 0 - 1 for the league and tonight's game is a league game as well (and they are down two defensive starters). They would REALLY like to be back-to-back NCS Champs, but I'm not sure that they will do it this year. They aren't ranked that high this year compared to the other teams.

Hi all,

Haven't "klatched" in a long while, but thought that I would check in.

Lisa, sounds like you are having Colorado weather a few days late. Tuesday it was in the 80s and Wednesday low 50's with wind. Tomorrow should be in the mid 70s and we could have our first snow Sunday night! Not quite ready for that.

Our plans for the weekend are a 5k (I am running and kids are working it as it is for DECA a DD's high school and she is an officer) and running kids to Nutcrakcer rehersals for DD and swim team practice.

Tyra, DS was playing 8th grade football this year and played fullback and middle linebacker. Fortunately for him he was on the lightweight team otherwise I think he would have been hurt as he was either getting tackled or tackling on almost every play. I don't know if he will be big enough to play in HS; I am kind of hoping that he sticks with swimming. He actually has a chance with a scholarship in swimming and I don't have to worry about things like concussions. But he loves the hitting!

Leigh, my kids are now 16 and 13 and finally don't argue too much anymore. Of course, they still have their moments, but are actually pretty good friends (at least as close as a brother and sister at those ages can be).

Escher, enjoy the weekend; I can't drink to excess anymore something about hitting 40 has made those hangovers last for days as opposed to hours. The closest I came was a few months ago when the SO and I decided to have some shots of very yummy tequila. Three and I was done, but it was kind of fun. ;)

Back to work; I have to try and get out early to get the kids to dental appts.

Got it - Our team is 5-0 (first time in about 10 yrs!!) - we're supposed to play Milton Hershey tonight who are also undefeated BUT it's POURING out now. And supposed to continue so tonight's gonna be a sludge mud match. Jack wants to go but when he heard the forecast he decided he'll go next week! ;)

Happy Birthday, Loren! And Congrats on the new jeep!

Escher, it's fun getting new toys. DH just bought a suit of Storm Trooper armor, and the pieces of it keep getting all over the house!

It sounds like fall is hitting everybody hard out there. Our summer finally kicked in a couple of weeks ago. It's been in the high 80s and 90s here.

Now I know why I opted for no kids. I wouldn't be able to stand fighting in the morning...or at all! Although my brother and I used to fight a lot...but very quietly, or else we would get in big trouble.

My weekend is going to be fairly quiet. I'm helping some friends put together costumes tonight. Saturday I'm going to see Serenity. Sunday I'm going to an early morning charity event at the fashion institute, followed by the dreaded shoe shopping. As usual, I'll attempt to get sewing in.

Laura - Football here is a 'no-cut' sport. If you want to be on the team, you are. No guarantee that you will play though. But at the freshman level, they have a 5th quarter for those that didn't play in the the official game.

Michael didn't join the team freshman year. You do risk injury (he hurt is shoulder (rotater cuff injury) and has a slight tear in his meniscus) but it hasn't stopped him from practicing and playing  The team has a trainer and an orthopedist that the kids can see during practices/games. He has also been to PT and his own orthopedist but no one is telling him not to play (or have surgery on the knee).

He is a big kid though (6'3", 260) and they do teach how to take the hits safely. But...I'm all for swimming too :)

I think *think* Jack had a minor concussion from one hit and knocked a bracket off his braces. Actually, I think practice was harder than the actual games. It is fun to watch, but ... the mother comes out in me too when he tackles someone or gets hit. ;) The middle school season is over now though, so I don't have to worry about this until it is time for summer football camp.

Finally!

I talked to my dad and to the in-laws. It looks like all of them are going to come to Ginger's game tomorrow! Of course, MIL asked when the game was. My reply was "didn't you get the schedule I sent?" To which (naturally) she replied, "Yes, but I haven't looked at it." Then why did I waste my time and effort sending it to you?!?!

As for fights.....my brothers and I hated looking at each other during breakfast in the mornings. Mom's solution was to always (and I mean always) keep 3 boxes of cereal on hand. We would each get out box and put it right in front of us at the table so we didn't have to look at our siblings. :D

Colleen,
I'm not sure you don't have at least one child masquerading as your husband. Especially when you complain about his toys being spread all over the house.

Tyra,
I agree, skip the traffic & the game since his dad will be there!

Charisse,
LOL! I'm surprised the boys were up at 9 am when they don't have school! :D

Laura,
What's up with your weather? Possible snow already?!?

I fully understand. I really liked it last year when Michael was Special Teams Long Snapper. The chance of injury was so much less than when he plays offensive/defensive line.

Try 6am!!!! As I go to close windows because it has started to rain, Jack is sitting up in bed and declared "I've been awake since 1am". Hmmmmmm..... Waiting for him to crash if this is the case!! ;)

Tyra and Laura - my Jack (who is 8) wanted to try football this year and I stalled as long as I could. I got him to play soccer again this fall but I am so concerned b/c he is really small. He's fine with not playing right now but I have a feeling we'll be going through this every season. He loves watching both college and pro football and naturally then wants to play.

Aaahhhh, isn't it lovely? I'm SO ready to be done with the hot days of summer.

Hi everyone - I have not klatched in forever but I'm home today with DD who is sick. She is napping now and so I have some time to play. :)

DH and I replaced our dining room floor yesterday. It had been carpet and we put in a pre-finished hardwood floor. I'm really happy with how it looks. We are getting new carpet throughout the house on Oct 20, and we have a few projects to finish up before they come.

Tyra, I agree with you on fighting the traffic.

Leigh, ah, the fights before school. Something to look forward to.

Loren, happy birthday and enjoy the new car!

Escher, have a nice weekend. Oh, and by the way, thanks a lot. You had posted last week about your kids taking their diapers off and running around nekked. Well, DD must have read that because last Friday she started taking off her diaper. She wasn't running around so much as laying on the changing pad from her diaper bag and trying to re-diaper herself. So thanks for giving her the idea.

Colleen, enjoy your weekend! I agree that it sounds like you have a kid in your DH.

Sounds like my younger son. He will even set an alarm so that he can wake up early and have 'Alex time' on the computer without anyone bothering him

I didn't have that problem with Michael being small. He was always big for his age and since the Pop Warner had age/weight limits, he never could play. He always weighed too much (he was 5' 3" and 120 at 10 years old). He did play year-round sports though until 6th grade and then went just to baseball for a year. 7th - 9th grade, he didn't play any sports. It was nice to have the weekends free :)

Lara - the floor sounds nice. I like hardwood floors. Maybe its time to start potty training Natalie. Sounds like she might be ready for it.

Sounds like my ex. I send him the schedule (and the links to where it is on-line). He still calls to confirm where the game is. Even better, he called this morning to verify he is taking Alex to dinner and picking him up at 4pm. Um, yes, this was the plan HE made with Alex a few days ago

Oh well, at least he does show when he says he will

Tyra, yeah I would love to start potty training her. We have a little potty for her and she likes to sit on it, etc. But her interest in it seems to come and go.

She's really been playing "mommy" to her stuffed animals and dolls. She goes and gets a diaper and puts it on them and carries it around, takes the diaper off, gives the "baby" a bottle, rocks and sings to them in her rocking chair, etc. I don't know what the taking off the diaper thing last week was though. I hope the playing mommy will continue when I have a newborn to take care of this winter!

It's probably not what you want to hear, but if he is really interested, I would start him younger so that as he gets older he will have more experience in hitting and being hit. My DS (Jack too) was at a disadvantage last year because he did not know how to hit, and apparently, you are more likely to get hurt trying to avoid a hit, then taking someone on. When they are little (8, 9 etc), I'm guessing that the risk of injury is not much more than it would be in soccer.

Well I cancelled the dental appointments; I picked up DD and she has a bad sore throat and strep is going around her school so I postponed the appointments for a week. Have a great weekend everyone!
