Have been off the boards for a little while – actually surprised to realize that it was not quite as long as it seemed to me, especially after clicking on “New Posts” and having pages and pages come up – I never cease to be amazed at the activity on this board!

The last week or so has been a real merry-go-round ride, with emotions all over the place. It’s nice to get back to a routine and back into checking on new recipes and “other stuff”.

Last Wednesday, September 28, we had to say good-bye to our sweet Dalmatian, Kismet. She was 15˝ years old, and had had some health problems over the past year and a half but they really escalated this past month. It became painfully obvious that her time was nearing, but I wasn’t quite ready for when it did happen. I didn’t have much time to grieve, though (although I know it will hit me soon enough when I have a little quiet time to myself and I guess I am dreading that) because the very next morning my DD went into the hospital and presented me with the most wonderful early birthday present I could ever have hoped for – I am now the unbelievably proud grandma of the world’s cutest bouncing baby boy (not that I’m prejudiced or anything)!!! :) :D ;)
He is the first grandchild on both sides, so you can just imagine, I’m sure…

Anyway, in less than 24 hours I went from the lowest of lows to the highest of highs, and I am still reeling. It’s nice to be back trying to regain an even keel…

Belated thanks for the birthday wishes (and belated wishes to my birthday “twins”) and also wishes for L’Shana Tova to all of you who celebrate.

Leslie,

You have been through a circle of emotion. I'm sorry to hear about Kismet. Happy belated birthday. Congratulations on the birth of your grandson! He'll bring you so much joy! :D What is his name? My first, Jacob, was the first grandchild on both sides.

Leslie,

It's good to have you back again. So sorry about Kismet. We faced a similar situation with our 15 1/2 year old cat, Herschel, in January. It was very hard to say goodbye, but it was time and we had to do what was best for him.

Congratulations on your grandson! You must be so thrilled. Hope to hear more about him soon.

Martha

Leslie,
So sorry to hear about Kismet. 15 1/2 years, what a blessing to have had him for that long, but it is always hard.
So happy to hear about your new grandbaby! How exciting.

Welcome back
Kim

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words about Kismet. We are slowly getting used to the reality of her not being here anymore. And I think that the one who is having the hardest time is our cat, Juliet (see my avatar -- it's the 2 of them). They were constant companions -- Jules is 2 years older and just took to Kismet when we brought her home. Even our other cat who has never been overly kind to Juliet because she wants to be #1 has been very sweet to her lately. It's a big transition for the whole household.

Yes, this has been quite a New Year and has really brought home the image of the circle of life.

Hope to hear more about him soon.

Oh, Martha, you must learn NEVER to say that to a very proud (and ESPECIALLY a first-time very proud) grandparent!!! :D Not unless you are willing to have to listen to hours of talk about the baby and subject yourself to albums of pictures... But I will restrain myself a bit and just say that my grandson's name is Oliver Martin and this is his coming home picture -- 47 hours old...

Mazel Tov, and welcome to the world, little Oliver.

I am sorry about the loss of Kismet--it must be very difficult to lose a beloved pet.
