I'm about to go on a mini-Amazon shopping spree and need some advice. I am ordering "One Smart Cookie" for sure and am debating about a few others... which two would you pick??
*Best of Cooking Light
*Cover and Bake
*The big book of casseroles
*Weight Watchers Take out tonight
Or any other must-have suggestions? Just starting to build up my cookbooks and am looking to get those must-haves first.
Thanks!

I don't know anything about a few of those books, but I can definitely recommend WW Take Out Tonight . We have really enjoyed everything that I have made from there. One Smart Cookie is also great. I bought both of those cookbooks based on recommendations from this board.

We make quite a few things out of BB of Casseroles. All of have been good-nothing truly inventive-but they have turned out well, and it's nice for weeknights.

I love my C.I.Cover and Bake. Probably one of my more freq. used cookbooks!

Question for MCGeiger: my maiden name is Geiger and a not so common name ,at least around here(Ohio). Where do you hail from,if you don't mind me asking? Steph

The WW Take Out Tonight has great recipes although most of the best ones have been posted on this BB so you might not actually need the book. :)

Thanks for the suggestions- I'm going to sleep on it and order in the morning! Can't wait- I have next week off so I'll be cooking like crazy!
Silly girl! Don't you know the proper responce here is likely to be "all of them"? ;) Good luck with your decisions.

I have both of the casserole books but have made only one from the C.I. one (and it was very good). I plan to cook from it more this fall, but have made several recipes from the Big Book of Casseroles - good ol' comfort food recipes abound!

Isn't it funny how it is so easy to justify more cookbooks to DH because of course he'll benefit! :) I can't wait to make some new recipes.

I really love two cookbooks:
The Fitness Kitchen by Shelly Sinton. She has a monthly newsletter as well. It has such good information on it. Her site is www.shellysfitnesskitchen.com.
I also enjoy using A New Way to Cook by Sally Schneider.

I just checked out Cover and Bake from the library last week. It is a great book- so much great info, as usual from C.I. people, and the recipes looked good, too.
I've added it to my wish list for the future!
I make the skillet lasagna recipe all the time. I think it's a bit different in the Cover and Bake book from the recipe they printed in Cook's Country. The difference being that they used sausage in one recipe and meatloaf mix in the one I make.
I'd love to try the skillet stroganoff sometime in the future.

My vote is for the big book of casseroles (the only one listed that I have). I use it at least once a week. The veggie lasagna recipe is the my DB's favorite. I make others and he always says, "why don't you make the usual one?". It is one of my fall-back cookbooks when DB & DS clamor for "regular" food (I am forever trying new things).

It looks like I've caught the cookbook collecting bug. I've only started cooking this month (April 2006). Besides the books listed here, I've got more cookbooks coming in the mail.
