OK, so I went to make the lemon-ginger ice cream in the ice cream maker I borrowed from my dad. Unfortunately, the motor has burned out.
I think I will buy one for us but I have no clue what brand/type to buy. Any suggestions? We don't want to spend too much money.

Jessica - I bought DH an electric White Mountain ice cream freezer years and years ago and it is still cranking out the ice cream!!! White Mountain is expensive but well worth it. Our daughter and her husband borrowed ours a couple of times and then eneded up buying a White Mountain for themselves.

I have a WONDERFUL "old family ice cream recipe" if you need one, just let me know & I can post it.

Here is one previous thread on this subject from the archives (more are lurking I'm sure). Hope it proves useful!

We have two, both manual. One is the White Mountain one with wood sides DH grew up with(I think it belonged to his mother's family) and one we had when I was a kid. If you're willing to crank, they last forever and you can make ice cream even during a blackout! They are also less expensive and make you feel like you've earned a treat.

I have the Cuisinart one, (with the freezable bowl). I have seen it in Chef's catalog as well as some others recently, and it seems as though most places are offering a special gift: a free extra bowl w/ purchase of the ice-cream maker. That's a good deal! BTW, I LOVE mine! Makes delicious frozen margaritas, too! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

I just bought the Cuisinart and love it. Does anyone know of any good cookbooks or web sites that have lowfat ice cream recipes? I made a frozen yogurt recipe that came with the maker, but want to expand and explore!
