My husband and I are going on a little road trip for our first anniversary this weekend. We will be driving from San Francisco to Oregon, where we will be staying with our friends in their new house. On the way back to SF we wanted to stay overnight somewhere. Does anyone have any recommendations for a B&B/hotel somewhere along that route? I know nothing about that area, so any information you could provide would be helpful!

Hi Goldilocks,

Along with recommendations you get here, you should check out www.bbonline.com (http://www.bbonline.com) and do a search there. If nothing else, once someone recommends a B&B (or an area), you can check it out there!

It was a big, big help to me (along with people on this BB, of course!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif) for planning our trip to NC this summer.

Good luck!

I can't recommend any specific B&B's in that area but here are a few more web sites to check out (bbonline.com is first on my list!):
www.travelguides.com/bandb (http://www.travelguides.com/bandb) www.bedandbreakfast.com (http://www.bedandbreakfast.com) www.innformation.com (http://www.innformation.com) www.innplace.com (http://www.innplace.com) www.inns.com (http://www.inns.com) www.innsite.com (http://www.innsite.com) www.traveldata.com (http://www.traveldata.com) www.bbdirectory.com (http://www.bbdirectory.com)

Can you tell we like B&B's?!

goldilocks,

I definately can be of some assistance on this one, since I live in Redding - right between SF and Oregon on Interstate 5. (I assume you are taking I-5). Where in Oregon are you going? About where were you thinking of spending the night on the way back? There is a wonderful B&B called the Brigadoon Castle that is in Igo (about 3 hours above SF) and 2 1/2 hours below the Oregon border (Ph#530-396-2785; www.brigadooncastle.com. (http://www.brigadooncastle.com.) It has been rated one of the ten best B&B's in the country. If you want to stay further north in Mt. Shasta or McCloud, there are several B&B's. Here are some of them: McCloud Hotel Ph#800-964-2823; www.mchotel.com; (http://www.mchotel.com;) Mt. Shasta Ranch Bed and Breakfast Ph#530-926-3870; www.stayinshasta.com; (http://www.stayinshasta.com;) McCloud Guest House (530)964-3160. If you want to stay in Southern Oregon, Ashland can't be beat! It is B&B heaven.

Unfortunately, since it is a holiday weekend, I assume most places are already booked. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance with names and #'s of hotels, restaurants, things to see, etc. I would be happy to help!

Happy Anniversary!

Peggy - A former Bay Area Girl!

Thanks to all who responded!

Peggy, thanks so much for your help. We are going to suburb near Portland (Beaverton). If you anything about this area as far as eating and sightseeing, please pass it along. We know nothing and our friends only moved there 3 months ago. Yes, we will be taking I-5 up. We can really stay anywhere we want on the way back down. We are totally going to be spontaneous and see what's open at the time (I know there will be cancellations). Where is Ashland, and where would you recommend going there? If any other places come to your mind today, please post. Thanks again!

goldilocks,

I am not an expert on Portland and it looks like you got some great ideas from people that are! I know much more about Northern California. Ashland is just few miles over the Oregon border. It is where they have the annual Shakespeare Festival. Lots of B&Bs, restaurants and fun shopping possibilities. I doubt you would be able to find a B&B available but here is a phone # you could check: Ashland Bed and Breakfast Reservation Network: 800-944-0329. If there are any openings they would know about it.

Have a great trip!

Peggy
