Just saw on CNN.com that Wilma is strengthening, and may hit Florida as a major hurricane: Hurricane Wilma (http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/10/18/wilma/index.html) . The latest from NWS is that it has 100-mph winds and should become a major hurricane in the next 24 hours. I really hope this one fizzes out before it makes landfall - I'm sure even Jim Cantore is sick of hurricanes this year  .

Wild Wilma went from 7- to 175 mph in less than 24 hours and they say she is still gaining strength as hurricane forces went from 5 miles out from the eye wall to 50. The only good thing is that this kind of intensity can't be held for long. But Wilma will probably be a large storm wherever she hits. I'm just a little nervous that the fronts they are talking about steering her away from us could stall. People all along the Gulf need to keep watch and remember that Katrina was forecast to hit Florida from early on until the near end.

Just saw on MSN that Wilma is now the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic, and the fastest strengthening hurricane ever . As you said, Beth, the only consolation is that it's not likely to be this strong when it makes landfall.

This just broke, and still breaks, my heart!! :( Made me grumpy all day.
I have a lot of sadness for all the people these things hurt.

At my church book club on Wednesday night we spent some extra time in prayer that no one get hurt by Wilma. Speaking from the social services side (I work with homelessness), we're already running on fumes and I can't imagine how we could handle another influx...

I agree...we don't need ANYMORE!!! My parents live in FL and I'm in Houston so 2 of three primary family members are ususally in the path of some projected storm....my brother was smart - he lives in PA and just gets snow!!! It gets tiring preparing for soooo many storms. But, we get great weather in December and January so I guess it balances out a little tiny bit!

My husband and father had a deep-sea fishing trip planned for this weekend off the coast of NC. Obviously, it's been postponed. I surely wouldn't want my husband and father in the middle of Wilma!
