My friends and I started "Girl's Night" theme parties several months ago. We currently have 12 members. Each month the hostess picks a theme for the food. She is responsible for the main entree. The rest of us bring the appetizers, side dishes, drinks and dessert. We have already done, Asian, Mexican, Italian, Vegetarian, French, Carribean and Barbecue. Next month is my turn and I need a theme for the party. Any ideas???

Wow...that sounds like a great idea, and so much fun. How about Indian? You could set the table with candles, brocade and silk fabrics, flowers, tissue, anything goes. I made a great vegetable curry puff that kind of tastes like a samosa for Mother's Day which was excellent. Have a fiery chicken dish, some raita (cucumber yogurt), perhaps a potato dish, some naan (indian flat bread), different chutneys (mint and coriander). For dessert you could make kheer (rice pudding) and I have an easy recipe for kulfi (indian ice cream) if you would like. Let me know if you are interested and I will post some of these recipes.

You could do a "Sweet Potato Queens" night and make the recipes that are in the book.

How about Chinese? I just made the egg drop soup from the Complete CL cookbook and it was very good. (easy too)

How about foods/beverages that start with the letter "C". Of course if possible, find all recipes from "C"ooking Light. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Appetizer: Camembert with some sort of topping
Appetizer: Crostini with some sort of topping
Main Course: Chicken dish (most people like chicken and it is very versatile)
Dessert: Cheesecake

How about celebrating the arrival of summer. I always think of certain foods for summer -- such as strawberries, fresh vegetables, seafood, crisp white wine.....

Since it is July, how about a take-off on Independence Day, with each person bringing a food representative from different US states, for example the person assigned the drinks would do "Manhattans" and the dessert Kentucky Derby Pie, etc...you get the idea. Or food from that state such as Georgia Peaches (cobbler), Washington Apples(pie), Maine Lobster! Wisconsin Cheese, etc....
Or pick a region of the US and explore the cuisine, i.e. Louisiana Cajun, Southwest, Northwest, California, etc...
Just a little departure from the country of the month idea..... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Next day: okay so it's not July! Sorry-I'm living in the future I guess... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

I'm thinking Beach Party... Everyone in their beach wear, set up some beach chairs, flashy beach towels and picnic baskets in the living room, put the Beach Boys on the stereo, pour pitchers of Margaritas, and bring out the hibachi! Food could be anything summery, from Potato Salad to BBQ Ribs and really decadent burgers. Even if its 45 degrees outside, inside could be beachin' ! OK, y'all have me a bit confused! If this is still May (at least that what the date on my computer says) then wouldn't next month be June not July? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/confused.gif

And I vote for the India idea!

How about following this month's cooking class country and do Thai? All the recipes are right there for you! You could decorate with bamboo and pots of fresh herbs.
