I use Bounty only. Dateline did a piece on which paper towels are best - here is a link to the story for anyone interested:

I go through so much of the stuff, its a good thing I stock up when on sale. Better yet, I should buy stock in the company!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I usually use Scott Paper Towels. Sometimes i use Viva as well. I haven't tried Marcal. Sounds as though they are the best for cleaning windows.

Well, I had always used brand names, whatever was on sale or I had a cupon for, but the other day I bought Safeway brand, because I am now on a very strict budget (tuition payments again now that I am going back to grad school and every penny counts!) and I was surprised that they weren't that bad!

Oh, but they have to have the designs on them!

I'm a die-hard Bounty user, except for crappy garage-type jobs; for those, I use no-name brands.

And, I go against the norm with the rest of you - I like the cutesy decorator types, not just plain white!!

Bounty -- always. And they have to have the little designs on them -- fleurs and friend-sayings and things. They just look so blech without anything on them.
Sandy, that's so funny! I think we're about the only two people on the board who go for the designed ones! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I used to buy cheap ones, I figured they were going to be thrown away anyway?!? THen I started to spend the money on good quality paper towels and I won't go back to cheap ones.

I NEVER buy designs. I just don't want them decorated.

I use whatever is on sale or that I have a coupon for. I haven't really noticed a big difference. I even use the store branded ones sometimes.

I do like the little designs. I try to use ones that coordinate with my kitchen.

I'm a purist. Bounty--Plain White only. I'm one of those who hate the designs. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I have to add that I usually buy plain white Paper Towels. If there are only designed ones to choose from I choose ones with with the least amount of design or have a nice saying on them. As for TP, I only buy white. The same goes for kleenex, white, unsented. Of course I have to choose a pretty box. (P.S. it puzzles me as to why would someone want to buy scented kleenex)

I'll buy anything that is on sale except the grocery stores' brands. If nothing is on sale, I'll get whatever is the cheapest. I love Viva more than any other brand, but it is one of the highest priced ones. As long as it is a fairly popular brand though, it usually works. I use A LOT of paper towels when I cook and eat; probably a lot more than most other people.

I'm with you, funnybone. Only Bounty for me.

Bounty for me. No designs, preferably, but I'll buy ones with little flowers if that's all there is. No hearts, no teddy bears. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

We bought Scott recently using a coupon but my SO complained about them, so back to Bounty!

Seventh generation because of eco-friendliness (we use many of their products) and I prefer to support large corporations as little as possible. However, about the only thing we ever use paper towels for is drying fruit and for occasional spills. What on earth would you be scrubbing with a paper towel?

I use cloth napkins and dish rags or dishtowels whenever possible. I have no children so it probably makes it somewhat easier to do this.

Bounty Queen, checking in. I used to buy cheap ones, but hey- I'm worth it. And I use lots of paper towels too but life is short. Pure white only in the 15-roll pack, please...they fit perfectly in the bottom of that grocery cart!

Bounty Select-A-Size only. My DH used to tear-off a piece of a whole paper towel section (which drove me crazy), so now I buy the ones that are perforated into 1/2 sheets.

I love Select-a-size. Wish my paper towels were like that.

Kirkland - the Costco brand...only comes in all white. They are sturdy enough for our purposes, and when I did cost comparisons they were a little less expensive than the premium brands.

Bounty only, white only, and select-a-size if I can find them. The problem seems to be that everybody else at the store where I shop likes them too. They are always the first to go.

I do the same thing but I don't buy
Seventh Generation because I really don't like them--they fall apart too easily and they aren't select-a-size. I am a select-a-size girl all the way, either Bounty or Brawny (which ever is cheaper or available). I just bought a huge package of Bounty at Target that I thought were select-a-size and they weren't. Everytime I pull a whole sheet of paper towel off I cringe (and the package has six rolls!).

Bounty....the biggest roll they make. Believe me, I promise you, no one uses more then I do. I have a 17 year old dog who is inclined to have accidents and it's Bounty to the rescue

... the kitchen sink, the bathroom sink, the tub . . . I find bounty is strong enough for all these jobs. The sinks are never filthy dirty, but I find that the paper towels work great and I just toss them out - no germs lying around on sponges or other things.

Oh yeah. I agree. Anything that has been inside a living thing that is no longer inside of it MUST be cleaned up with paper towels. Blech!

LOL. My DH does the same. Only he does it with the select-a-size as well!! Argh!

Plain, white, Bounty Select-a-size.

This probably belongs in the "Snob" thread! I'm definitely a TP, paper towel and tissue snob! Only the strongest and/or softest for me! I just have an aversion to using sandpaper on my delicates!!!

Used to use Bounty, but after I started using VIVA, I NEVER went back. I also look for the plain white ones, but if I can't find them I use the ones with the designs.

wow this is a great thread. believe it or not, i'm in advertising (couldn't you guess from my nickname?) and i work on the brawny account, among other things.

who needs focus groups when there are bulletin boards?! it's really interesting to hear you guys talk about this, especially how so many of you are loyal to bounty! when you spend your whole day thinking about packaged goods, it's hard to put on your consumer hat sometimes... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Bounty. Plain white whenever I can find them. Otherwise, the simpler the design the better!

I started using Bounty exclusively because my eye doctor says they are the best thing for drying my (anti-reflective finish) glasses after I clean them! He says rinse first, then wash w/ Dawn dishwashing liquid, and blot dry with a folded Bounty.

Hmmmmmm... all these years I've thought he was down to earth and ever-so-wise -- now I wonder if he simply has stock in Bounty and Dawn?!!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I also use Bounty. I like the one where you can either tear off a half a sheet or the whole sheet. They only come in white, and thats fine.

Any unbleached brand with a high post-comsumer recycle content works for us. We don't go through very many except when I am canning or the kids are cooking and have a lot of woopses.

O.K. everybody out there. Now we separate the Viva's from the Bounty's.
Yea, the Bounty's are winning hands down!!!!

My mom got me hooked on VIVA Big Roll White Paper towels. Where I live, they are usually priced higher than the other brands (about $1.89), but I was thrilled to find them at Target for $1.19 a roll and I had a coupon. This was a great time to stock up!

We use VIVA. Believe me, I was a Bounty person for a looong time but my store was out one day and I didn't feel like traveling elsewhere so I picked up a roll of VIVA. Have not used anything but since. They are so strong and durable. You could was dishes with them! Try them!

I use select-a-size, pure while only, usually the Bi-Lo store brand. They are waaaay cheaper, and I use them mainly to wipe up spills, overflows, etc, not for heavy duty cleaning. If I need some for heavy duty stuff, I use Bounty. I keep three rolls open in various spots in the house all the time, and usually one is Bounty, the other two store brand select-a-size. They last me so much longer, and I don't want to waste trees.

I usually switched between Bounty and Brawny, whichever was on sale and had a coupon, but I recently had a bad experience with a Bounty 8-pack special.
Everytime you pulled a sheet off, it looked like it was snowing. I had little lint fuzzies everywhere. Every other roll in the pack was like this. I never had this problem with Bounty in the past. Maybe it was the 8-pack deal?
Anyway, I complained to Bounty, and they responded that they pay special attention to cleaning their machinery of lint, but that a few rolls do sneak through. Apparently these few rolls ended up in my 8-pack. They were kind enough to send me a coupon for a free 8 pack, but I am now very hesitant to purchase their brand again. There's something wrong when you have to clean up after the "Quicker Picker-upper".
Just my opinion.

Bounty white only!! I buy the giant size package at Sam's - keep one in each bathroom, along with kitchen and garage.

We buy only Viva paper towels. I hate the designs, but they are so strong and absorbent. Wow, do I sound enough like a commercial? (except for the design comment, of course) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Viva only! They are nice and thick and actually feel like a towel almost. I have used them ever since a friend's daughter did a science experiment for school and found them to be the best. I tried them and agree. Design or no design, I do not care.
