Maybe it's me because much of it was filmed in my home town, but I LOVED the move, NORTH COUNTRY. Charlize Theron does a great job but my favorite character was the one played by Frances McDormand. I am from the Iron Range in northen MN and life is/was tough for the miners. I highly recommend it with the advice that it has uncomfortable moments due to the content. I hear it is an award contender and rightly so! (BTW, the cast was wonderful while they filmed PLUS brought in a ton of $$ to the area while they were there.) Sue

I also enjoyed the movie. I'm in my late 20's and it was so interesting to me that this all transpired in the 90's. It just wasn't that long ago!

I saw this on Sunday afternoon and although I think it's a good movie and that Theron does an EXCELLENT job...I didn't think it was a great movie...I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars....my 2 cents

slawrence - we may be from the same town! (or neighbors)
I grew up in Virginia...I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. Just have to find a spot in my weekends to fit it in.

I pretty much agree. I thought the acting was incredible, but I had a few problems with the plot. The courtroom scenes were completely unrealistic and the high school flashback story line was unnecessary. I thought it could have been an excellent movie, but they tried to make it a little too "Hollywood", which marred it. All that said, we did like it, and I can see Charlize picking up another Oscar for her amazing performance.

And you to Lori
The house featured was the old Cheever place on Kerr location - the house my Dad was raised in. So when my folks went to see the movie DM's only comment was 'No one ever used the front door!'. Do you think they missed something? Oh and she noted they remodeled the kitchen (well duh! I would hope so the last time she was in that house was the early '50's)
Yes I am a Cheever (of Cheever Field if you're old enough to remember it). DF is a graduate of Hibbing High and DM is a graduate of Chisholm. I however am from Denver, CO but currently live on the side of MN closest to ND. Poor DH thought he was moving to good food country (the range) but we ended up in the Land of Bland
Go Rangers! :D

Isn't it cool to see places that you actually know? A guy I went to high school with lives in Austin, TX, which is about a 4 hour drive from me. We might have to meet in Waco to watch the movie together!
I was a graduate of Virginia High School (Roosevelt back then)...and Hibbing was one of our biggest rivals - on the hockey rink and in the marching band!
My mom grew up in Red Lake Falls...the ND side of MN. Where the dirt is black - as opposed to red like it is on the Range.
Sue - I'm PMing you.
