View Full Version : Sandra Lee's Halloween Show?

Did anyone here watch the Sandra Lee Halloween Show that was on Food Network on Sunday night?
It was unbelievable!! Let me just say, the highlight for me was when, towards the end she advises buying a pre-made pumpkin pie and a pre-made cheesecake. She then scoops out the filling of both and spoons them into zip lock bags. Then she pipes the filling into another type of shell for eating. And goes on and on about how yummy they are. GROSS!!!!
The pizza with caviar cream came in a close second for me too.
Poor Tyler Florence, wonder what he did to deserve having to be on that show.....
I will not even go into what I thought of her costumes....

Yeah, this was like a train wreck for me. I just could not tear my eyes away. DBF was goggling at the princess costume (VERY decolletage) and finally asked if she was intentionally leaning forward at the waist all the time, presenting her cleavage to the camera.
The candy apples rolled in candy corn was pretty gross too. What IS it with her? It's like her taste buds are only tuned to sugar---can't even remember which recipe it was that started with caramel sauce, to which she added a FULL CUP of brown sugar. Gee, cuz caramel sauce just isn't sweet enough?

Darn! I missed this one, I actually tried to remember to watch it because I was interested in seeing her ideas. I can just imagine, pumpkin pie scooped up.... I don't know but lately on the reviews for the recipes they are really just bashing her, there are no more actuall reviews anymore just rude comments. I am no where near a fan of hers and I too do not understand what is it exactly about her. I did hear tyler was on the show which surprised me. There was a restaurant makeover on last night that had my jaw drop on how the owner was complete a moron and unappreciative.I am however, looking forward to Behind the Bash tonite!!! Woo-hoo!

I thought the same thing!!!
My only thought was that the Food Network execs. made him do it. Emeril had a Halloween special that night too, and I know that some of the other network chefs were on it.

Now, don't knock it! That was a family recipe passed down by her Auntie Paula D. ;) :p

Sandra, on one of your shows you asked for our recipes for things. I am not creative but I do make one thing that my kids love. First I take 2 pieces of white bread. Then I put some peanut butter on one slice. Sometimes I use the "chunky style". Then I put some grap jelly on the other slice. Then I put the two pieces of bread together with the peanut butter side facing the jelly side (that way it's not so messy). And then I cut the crusts off. Next I cut the bread into some interesting shapes, like triangles or rectangles. I call it "Mom's Secret Stuffed Bread". I gave it 5 stars here and I know you will too. I hope you will make it on your show (which I love). Sincerely, Bobette Randolph.

She looked like a Barbie Doll on crack! I just don't understand how this babe got a "cooking" show of her own. This is low-down and snarky, but I swear she has a "special" relationship with one of the producers . No talent, clearly does not actually eat any food at all, and seems as dumb as a stump.
Sorry. She makes me crazy!

What about the poor pumpkin carving guy that she kept hugging and kissing on the cheek? He was visibly cringing, you could actually hear the little voices in his head screaming "eeeee!! get away! get away from me!"
And poor Tyler Florence...Sandra was hitting on him hard-core. Talk about nauseating, that gave some serious competition to her "cooking."
And Tyler...mixing pizza dough with his hands...that were painted GREEN!!!
Did anyone notice that she yanked a spoon out of "boiling hot" candy (when she was making the lollypops) and put her hand under the spoon on its way over to the tray? You'll be getting 3rd degree burns if that drips Sandy, but at least we won't mess up the counter!
So many upsetting things to talk about...so little time!

hmnn I guess what I saw the other day must have been last year's show -- she was in a witch/Elvira costume where the sleeves kept trailing into the food. I watched, secretly hoping she would catch on fire!
All I recall was some kind of chili slopped into a bread bowl.

"my husband made the same comment abougt her bending back and forth to show cleavage"
My husband and I noticed the same thing. She kept changing outfits, but each outfit was tightfitting with a VERY low cut top. There was one particular dress at the beginning where she kept bending over and she was literally hanging out of the dress. Certainly, she knew what she was doing. She just kept doing it over and over. DH and I were cracking up.

"Sandra Lee's Show" and "Halloween" is redundant.
Someone actually sent me something from her fan site, and apparently Sandra has dumped her husband (CEO of KB Homes) because she's got the procreation bug. So maybe but what you all saw was something of a mating dance.....

So I suppose she's in the market for a guy who wants semi-homemade sex? :D
Seriously though, now I have got to see this - even just for five terrifying minutes.
I also only made it about 10 min into the show. After reading all the comments and LOL I wish I would have watched the rest of the show
I have never liked her and I don't think I have ever made anything from any of her show either.
And as for as her "table scapes" pleeease give me a break, there is never enough room for the food or you have to search for it

...every outfit EXCEPT the Daisy Mae/Dogpatch/Hee Haw one, which was a) ugly, b) shapeless and c) where she clearly wasn't wearing a bra, because her bosom was somewhere down toward her waist. Even absent the eyebrow-pencil-freckles all over her face, this was one of the least flattering things I've seen in a while.
For those of you who missed it, check your local listings---I believe it's showing 3 or 4 more times before Halloween.

Bob, if I did ever see her with a leather jacket and slicked back hair, I'd have to head directly to the emergency room, because I'm afraid I'd just drop dead, laughing to death!

ALSO on that show was the oh-so-pretty layered dip. You know, the one she made in a dish that was waaay too deep to actually get to more than the top 2 layers? She made such a fuss over it being layered perfectly so that you can see all the layers from the outside of the bowl, and then the woman goes and drops it into a jack-o-lantern bucket...
I think someone that actually knows how to cook boiled her brain.

Okay, I must put in my 2 cents here.... I am not claiming to be an expert on plastic surgery or "augmentations" but I am pretty sure Sandra Lee has gone this route. However, usually augmented bosoms are somewhat perkier, aren't they? She alwasy wears such clingy tops on every show and it isn't flattering at all.

I'm a lurker, coming out hiding! You guys have been cracking me up. Sandra's show is a definite train wreck for me too. I saw this episode too...isn't it the same one where she mixes a couple cans of Campbell soup, warms it up for about 10 seconds, and put it in a bread bowl (which, by the way, I think she thinks she invented)? And how exactly do you keep that "soup" warm for your guests?

Just checked Food TV's guide to see what Alton's high jinks were tonite, and you kids better set those VCRs to catch Ms. Lee at 5 this afternoon for the 1 hour--count those dreadful minutes!--Halloween repeat. And as for those candy apples, it's wasn't the candy corn that got me, it was the hideous black licorace (sp?) chunks she rolled on!! Checkbook, thy name is dentist!!! Ouch! Ick! Both! And can't we all afford to take her recommendation to rent out a mansion like that for a lil Halloween bash!!! How the heck were they gonna get those candles outta that pool, anyhoo?

Funny, I have always thought Sandra has droopy boobs. It is weird to know that others have those same thoughts when watching a show about cooking. Anyway, she does drive me nuts with the way she sticks the most enormous spoons in her mouth to taste her creations. At least Paula Deem takes her big bites with a giggle :) And what person has the time or money to color coordinate your kitchen and tablescape (whatever that is) with each meal.
Just wondering! Thanks for giving me a forum to rant

Oh, you mean those fabulous Beer Cocktails she likes to make?
There's one thing on her show I'll give her credit for thinking of...nobody with self respect would mix beer into a cocktail. UGH!
She's also a big fan of the cocktail at kids' parties. Yes, honey, it's a great idea to get all liquored up and then go pass out by the pool while the kiddies flail in the water.

Actually, I just realized it's on now- I had to check it out. (Like "The Kramer" painting... loathsome, yet I cannot look away)
I just happened to join in when she was murderizing the poor pumpkin pie and cheesecake!! If you're going to go through the trouble of scooping all the insides out of store-bought desserts, just make the %$&%#&*@ filling yourself. How ridiculous.
I guess the reason so many of us here roll our eyes is that we actually cook and/or bake. Think of how many people we know don't- they must find this absolutely mesmerizing. She must be their muse... their goddess... (Good Gordie! )

This is one of the funniest threads I've read in a while.
I refuse to watch her show, but with a glass or 2 of wine, it sounds like it could make for entertaining laughter. And, I'm always sad to miss a Tyler sighting
DH said that "that annoying woman from Food Network" was on Letterman last night, & he couldn't stand it. This was a Rachel Ray reference :-)
"Paw-lu" Dean had her 2 sons on the show last Sat, and by god, they all talk alike.
If Behind the Bash starts this week, we'll need to watch it. Each day when Giada is on, DH gives her a "cleavage rating" to see how low cut her tops are! (at least I like her, the show & her recipes, so it's OK)
Gosh....Food Network is more entertaining than I realised!
"I swear she has a "special" relationship with one of the producers."
Sounds logical. Ah, yes - pseudo "charisma" and cleavage will get you everything! Temporarily, but not for the long haul. What are your guesses about the length of her show, and/or contract?

I haven't watched that show since the infamous pearls-and-the-blue-frosted-angel-food-cake episode (http://community.cookinglight.com/showthread.php?p=556508&highlight=pearls#post556508).

For all the people who don't like Rachael Ray, somehow she wouldn't seem so bad after watching Sandra.
I watched yesterday just for entertainment. I have to agree, I don't understand why the Food Network would cancel Sara and yet have Sandra Lee on TV. As for the people who don't know how to cook/bake, I would think that Rachael Ray gives them a good alternative.
Where is the site where someone posted the "Mom's Secret Stuffed Bread" recipe for Sandra?
Af for Tyler, is it just me or he put on some weight? He looked like it the last time I saw How To Boil Water. If it isn't just me, maybe weight gain has decrease his popularity of his show and it was his idea to be on the show because people are watching her show - why I really don't know.

When she took the pumpkin pie and the cheese cake and put them together in a decorating bag to pipe into more shells that were also purchased I had to think...why doesn't she just give her guests a spoon and say DIG IN !!!
Not to mention that some young person learning to cook who is watching this show thinks that is how things are made in a bakery..LOL! Perhaps we should all drop the show a line and tell them what we thought of her Halloween special..if fright was what they had in mind for us then they were successfull! I was terrified :)

Yes - Giada does have a big head. Sometimes her smile makes me laugh, too. It's a great smile & part of her beauty, but I don't really need to see every tooth in her head, really.

I gotta confess....I'm a FoodTV Network junkie and can watch it all day long (even the repeats). I must say that I've learned a thing or two from most of the shows I've watched. I get a charge out of the comments that some people make about the stars of these shows and, although I think as a whole they're doing a great job, here's my 2 cents. I wish Giada would learn a new adjective and not say "creamy" so much. On the same note, I think Paula is overdoing "ya'll"; she says it more than ever before. I think Rachael Ray should give up all foods/drinks that have caffeine in them. Sometimes her hyper-ness makes me twitch. On the flip side, I love Ina's soothing approach, but wish she'd tie her hair back. Actually, (and I could be mistaken) the only female cook/chef who I've noticed pulls her hair back while cooking is Sara. As far as Sandy-baby goes, I have no words!

One of the peculiar things that really bugs me about Sandra is that her hair is ALWAYS hanging down into what she's making and she CONSTANTLY gets her sleeves in her food. Makes. Me. Nuts.
In the Halloween special, during the Tyler segment, she had a hair fall that was styled forward, hanging down over her shoulder. While she's making pizzas (gack, with quasi-biscuit dough) with her hands. Right in front of her. Sure, yes, absolutely, I'd like some fake polyester hair in my pizza. Yes indeedy. Yum! Sign me up.
My best girlfriend and I tend to watch her over the phone together on Saturday mornings, strictly for the  factor. We have decided that the Five Major Food Groups According to Sandra Lee are:
Seasoning Packets
Strawberry Soda
Cool Whip
Cake Mix
Canned Frosting

Don't worry for any of you who missed the Sandra's Halloween show, I do believe it is on again on Saturday -- yes, I just checked. It's listed at 4:00 pm Saturday, Oct. 29 (I believe that's eastern time). So, if you haven't seen it, you still can. And, if you have seen it, you can watch it again for scary, Halloween fun. :D
I only saw the last half hour of the show. Her food looked disgusting, especially that scooped out pumpkin pie/cheesecake stuff. YUCK!
As for her beer cocktails, all I have to say is DISGUSTING!! I just saw them for the first time a couple of weeks ago. She mixed beer and tomato juice. Yuck, yuck, yuck.
And, for the picture on the front of her website (the one with the curly hair, pink ribbon and black/pink ruffle collared top) -- sorry, but she looks like one of those old western movie saloon hookers.

I was wondering if maybe we're all totally off track, and this show is really meant to be a joke, like Brini Maxwell (the man who is dressed like and acts like a British Martha Stewart!). A take off on a real show. Maybe we've all missed the point!
Because, honestly, this babe can't be for real!!!
I doubt it was meant as a joke only because Tyler was on it. What was he thinking?????

I haven't watched that show since the infamous pearls-and-the-blue-frosted-angel-food-cake episode (http://community.cookinglight.com/showthread.php?p=556508&highlight=pearls#post556508).[/IMG]
Sandy, I had the same blue flashback. I don't have cable and so I can't watch any of these shows but this thread is hilarious.

"Want. To. Renew. Food. Network. Contract."
Seriously, you can totally see all these goofy contractual obligations some of these folks have to the network.

Tyler looked like he was in pain.
I don't think he had makeup on, either. He looked sickened to have to hug Sandy. That alone was worth watching the show. :D

And, for the picture on the front of her website (the one with the curly hair, pink ribbon and black/pink ruffle collared top) -- sorry, but she looks like one of those old western movie saloon hookers.
LOL! that is EXACTLY what I was thinking when I saw that pic. Too funny!

I'm not really sure I remember Cinderella (or whoever she was supposed to be) ever flashing her cleavage on national television either...maybe I didn't watch the movie close enough, distracted by the mice or something.

Before she identified her costume as a "sugar plum fairy"  I thought she was a can can dancer or maybe someone from the Moulin Rouge.

Right before Tyler had put the pizza dough in the "oven" what did he say that made her have that look and expression. I joined the show at that time. I won''t be able to see it tomorrow either. Seeing it once is probably too many times. On a positive note, if there ever could be one. Some and I do mean some of her recipes wouldn't be that bad if you didn't have that image of her behind them and have to see her everytime you turn around on that network.

Whats wrong with making your own pumpkin and cheesecake and not using the shells and graham cracker? Wouldn't there be less waste that way? I have baked leftover pumpkin mixture from my pies in the oven without the shell. It is possible.

How was the green pasta dish made? I never caught how it was done and wasn't paying attention when she had mentioned it at the end of the show. I really don't want to try and sit through this again!

They didn't really say...the pasta was colored with food coloring while it boiled, and this is just an educated Semi-Ho guess, but I'm pretty sure the sauce was cheese whiz.
She has a tendecy to put stuff on her final "tablescape" that weren't included in her show...

Don't mistake me for a Sandra Lee fan (I'm not), but I'm feeling the need to come to her defense! :p (She's a Wisconsin girl, after all -- Stevens Point, I believe.)
Anyway, if it hadn't been for Sandra, I never would have known that artichoke bottoms exist, and they make a tasty side/appetizer with her recipe:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_30608,00.html
I've made and served this dish for pot lucks and dinner parties, and to the last person, no one had used artichoke bottoms before.
So....there.....I learned something from Sandra Lee!

Because that would be homemade, not semi-homemade, you silly! You know 100% fresh ingredients instead of the 30% fresh 70% storebought Sandra is partial to.
What I don't get is why doesn't she divert the energy she expends making sailboat napkin holders and lace doilies to making homemade food! Lose the tablescapes and themed kitchen decor!

I know it wouldn't truly be a semi-homemade meal but still what a waste of food!
Don't get me wrong I don't hate her, in fact, I have a few of her cookbooks. I have never made anything from them but I still have them. I figure if I ever want to get dinner on the table in a hurry I can always turn to one of her cookbooks.
I guess some of this is just frustration with food network, not an individual, its the same way with Paula and Giada, their on everyday during the week, twice!

Cheese whiz, that is what it reminded me of when I first seen the dish. I think the tablescapes are little unnecessary myself.
Who would do that every day for every meal? I can understand if you had to entertain someone and used those dishes but for everyday, out of the question, not enough time in the day to invest into something like that.

She did say to use the crusts as toppings for ice cream, so that's not exactly wasting them. Then again, I don't like store bought pie crust enough to use it as an ice cream topper.
Some of her ideas are similiar to what you'd see in Family Fun Magazine. Somehow, they don't seem quite so bad coming from another source. Some are really creepy though.

Add a few drops of food coloring to the water. The pasta is like a sponge and will absorb the color.

On Friday, she made a cherry pie using a store-bought crust and a can of cherry-pie filling. If I was going to make a pie that way, I would just go to Baker's Square or Big Boy and buy a pie.
I wonder if some of the ratings are for people like us who are watching it for entertainment value?
I know that a lot of people cook at the semi-homemade level, but isn't that who the cooking shows are for - to help them learn another level. If you want to remain at the semi-homemade level and need ideas for which ingredients to combine, there are lots of recipes on the labels of many processed products.
I admit that I've used canned-cherry pie filling, but it was to top a homemade cheesecake.
