I've really enjoyed reading the BB here but haven't posted in ages. Well, I'm unlurking to ask a kinda dumb question but I need clarification. Is white wine vinegar the same as white vinegar (like the Heinz brand)? My salad recipe calls for white wine vinegar and I'm wondering if I can use my Heinz. Thanks and I've really enjoyed reading, esp. the recipe reviews.

Nope. Not the same animal. What you term "regular" I'm assuming is Ye Olde Distilled Vinegar, which is to my palate pretty harsh stuff in comparison to the milder white wine vinegar. Depending upon your salad dressing, you could probably get away with it (I mean, switching the distilled won't KILL you or anything) but the distilled has more of a bite to it. Personally I'd invest in a bottle of white wine or champagne vinegar, assuming your store has it. It's not horribly expensive, and in my opinion, it's a nicer taste.

Thanks, Gail. Next time I'm at the store, I'll look for one.
