View Full Version : You know you are a BB addict when...

Mbart

...you have spent your entire Saturday evening reading the bulletin board while eating Mango freeze and frozen M&Ms, AND COULDN'T BE HAPPIER ABOUT IT!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

(I'm usually not this pathetic...my husband is out of town, and...well, I don't have a sitter and, um, uh...okay, I'm sorta pathetic. But I'm happy! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

You go...how do YOU know you're an addict?

Hi Mbart! My husband is also away tonight and so I am checking the boards quite frequently too. My two daughters are out so I have the place to myself. I alternate between reading and checking here. I know I am addicted when I sit near the computer with my book and a cup of tea and hit the refresh button every half hour or so! It is always pretty quiet here on a Saturday night- I guess some people have a life ! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

I've replaced reading the morning paper with the CL BB.

Leaving for Vegas today on business. 3 days without this board. boo hoo

You stand in the doorway of your teenage son's room and whine "Is it my turn to be on the computer yet?"

You have read and re-read every thread for the past 10 days and start a new one just so you don't have to log-off.

LOL sneezles that was great!

....you are leaving for a business trip on Sunday afternoon, and get to the office 45 minutes early just to check the BB!

....you frequently talk about bb members or topics to non-bbers

You know you're addicted when 6 hours after surgery...You prop yourself up on three pillows so you can see, arrange the drainage tubes so you can sit upright, adjust the foam packing surrounding your torso so you can reach the keyboard, and hold off taking the pain meds so you can make out the words on the screen.... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

You know you're addicted when you think
1. I wonder how Jewel is feeling today. I hope she is recovering well and continues to keep us posted
2. I wonder if this is the one for Emilycat. Will she get engaged? Will she get married? Or will she just continue running and running marathons?
3. Maybe Mamasue will have a new graphic for us.
4. Gail is always teaching us something new.
5. Chefbec is always available for any cooking problems we have.
6. Greysangel lost 75 lbs. WOW, I hope she shares her secrets
7. My very own Valchemist, who always writes excellent reviews and I know what's cooking at her house.
8. I don't want to leave out Sneezles. BlueMoose. luv2Cook
9. I would like to go down the list and name you all but you know this would get too long; but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy reading all of your posts.
10. Finally Kwormann (Kim) because she invited me to stay with her if I ever have to go to Texas to find Drunkin Goat Cheese.

... I think of alot of you by your nicknames and wondering whats going on. Yesterday, I kept refreshing the reload button often. Today, its been iffy gettin in, timing out-very frustrating when you wonder whats new!! When Im at work, and I just get in for a brief period of time if its not break or lunch time-ummm!!! And also, when becoming a member is important over practically everything else-I made it this weekend.

maizeyoats.....you are SUCH a doll http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I think it is precious you and your wonderful daughter (valchemist) are both members! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

It was funny at Supper Cluc when there was a discussion about Matt and his job search and one of the husbands wanted to know why on a cooking board we knew of job searches......I told him "because we are a FAMILY!"

Maizeyoats, thanks for the thoughts! It's amazing how people from all over the world can become friends through this type of venue! We've gotta plan a big whoop-tee-doo somewhere centrally located...somewhere we can all get to easily.

Anyone here from Kansas??? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Since I now have limited time before my access to the board is shut off at 8 am here at work.. it gets me out of bed just that much faster in the morning! Kinda silly huh!

You know you're addicted when:

...you feel guilty for using garlic from a jar.

...the first thing you turn to in the new issue of CL is the quote from the BB.

...and you remember when it was originally posted.

This is Monday morning and looking forward to what is on the bb gets me looking forward to coming to work. I often start a sentence with "so & so on the bulletin board is doing this or says that."

I confess -- I'm totally addicted. I keep the BB up all the time at work although it's usually minimized. Although I do computer stuff for a living, I don't have a computer at home and it used to drive me crazy because I didn't get on the BB on the weekends. Now, I have a laptop I'm testing for my boss and I just love it. I will have to scream when I have to give the laptop back.

I know I'm addicted when...

I check before I leave for work and then immediately check in again when I get to work

I mention I heard something new and my husband said "did you hear that on the bulletin board?"

I mention someone to my husband "Julie said..." and he says "whose Julie? [pause] she's someone from the bulletin board, isn't she?" http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/redface.gif

You know you're addicted when:

...you can't wait for the kiddos to take a nap so you can check the bboard!

...run to the door to greet dh when he comes home from work, thrust a baby into his arms, and run for the computer to check the bboard ---this one just happend!

...you are having second thoughts about leaving your laptop at home while at a conference for a week. Lugging the laptop, all of its accoutrements, and the **** laptop bag seem a small price to pay when the alternative is to be without the BB for A WEEK...

...your workday is supposed to start at 7:00 am and you now get up half an hour earlier (5:30),so you can check the BB for an uninterrupted guilt free 30 minutes.

...you return from the gym hot, sweaty and hungry, but delay shower and food until you've caught up on the last two hours of BB activity...

...your dinner conversations now consist of what has transpired that day on the BB, much to the bemused annoyance of DH...

I am SO glad to know that I am in such great, addicted company http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

...you purposely bring up a very educational/cultural web site BEFORE you bring up the BB, in case DH or DD come into the room (in which case you quickly MINIMIZE the BB and appear ever-so-INTENSELY-INTERESTED in the educational site...) (and HOPE they don't notice the task bar... but hey, you don't want to "x" out of it... 'cause it's too darn hard to RELOAD sometimes!!!) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

...the BB is always minimized for quick access.

...you have your day off planned and somehow it's 2,3 hours later and you're still on the BB.

BTW, my BF doesn't criticize, he was a "Day Trader" in between jobs, so he knows all too well about addition.

I'm new here, but am already addicted. Every morning I can't wait to get on the computer to see what is going on. I've been wondering about Mrs. Reber, Jewel's surgery, ect.

My husband thinks I am ill and need to be committed after I say 'I read this on the BB.'

ooooh Funnybone!! I'll be in Hawaii in July!! Goin' to Maui! Goin' to Maui! Goin' to Maui!!
Where are you headed? I've never been to Maui before and I can't wait. We leave in 5 weeks and I'm still swollen like a balloon! But, Mom and I made two bee-u-ti-ful sheer sarongs while she was here that hang from my new waist and hips over my swimsuit to my knees to cover up those tree stumps I call thighs. Should cover up any residual swelling as well! Can't wait, can't wait!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

We are going to Wakiki only (we only have 8 days there and couldn't fit Maui in). We've been to Maui before (Kaanapali). We are taking our kids as well, and we know they will prefer Waikiki. We're staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, so we hope they enjoy it. It's our wedding anniversary then too.

Enjoy Maui - look up "Longhi's" in Lahaina. I remember going there in 1986 and the menu was verbal (the waiter/waitress memorizes it). It was excellent!!! I will never forget having a lobster ravioli -yummy. I wanted to go back to just eat there again. Maybe its best to keep it a memory. Their website is http://www.longhi-maui.com

Enjoy your trip!!!

I've been lurking for about a month but was prompted to post something when I noticed several of you are headed to Maui in the next few months. I'm going to Maui and the Big Island over Thanksgiving with my 79 year old in-laws (it's their 50th wedding anniversary) and my husband and 7 and 10 year old boys. I'd love any tips for activities or restaurants.

Also, I'm jealous reading about all of you who have gotten the June issue. Still waiting here in Eastern Mass.
