I'm looking for recipes taht can be prepared on a stovetop or grill. Also if anyone has any favorite pie iron combinations. Any help would be appreciated.

What's a Pie Iron? Sounds intriguing.

There was a thread on this not too long ago, I did a search but came up empty. I am still looking, as it had some really good ideas on this subject!

We also camp a few times a year. We have an annual tradition of meeting up with two of my high school friends and thier husbands. One of my friends always makes marinated chicken kabobs to grill for us. (Chicken, mushrooms, onions, peppers, etc) They're easy to make ahead, and don't involve any prep work once you're out in the wild. She usually brings a few boxes of coucous as a side dish, which we prepare on the stove.

My mom almost always makes spaghetti when we are camping. She makes the sauce ahead of time, and then just has to boil the noodles and heat the sauce.

I usually take the ingredients to make tortellini soup. It's hearty and real easy to throw together.

I remember the thread Browneye is referring to, but also came up empty on a search.

We usually do a pasta night as well when we are camping. The pre-packaged, refigerated ravioli or tortellini works well. I do use jarred sauce though! I at first thought this would be messy but it does work. I've thought about takaing kabobs, but have never done it. I'm glad to hear from somebody else that it works well. I'll try it next time we go. We have a trip planned for mid-June in Shenandoah Valley. I can't wait!

The BEST mountain pie is peanut butter with chocolate chips - so incredible. Warm pb and chocolate. What can top it?

Blue- by Pie Iron, do you mean the things with long handles and the iron part fits a regular slice of bread? When I was in girl scouts many moons ago, we always had to have pie iron pizza when we'd go camping! Simply butter 2 slices of bread, putting buttered sides to the outside. Fill with sauce, mozzarella & pepperoni (or whatever). Of course, adapt as necessary to lighten things up. They're very simple and basic, but they still bring a smile to my face as I remember those ol' camping days!

Kelly- the only thing that could possibly top that pie is whipped cream (of course!). http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
