I just was reading an article about NBC's new fall schedule. Emeril is going to be on a sitcom about a chef who has a tv show. Imagine that. The show is called Emeril & is supposed to be on Tuesday nights, I think.

I really like Emeril, but does anyone else think he's suffering from severe over-exposure???

He might as well ride the wave as long as he can....how does he find the time?

I don't know how he will find the time with restaurants, Emeril lIve, Essence of Emeril a new NBC sit com and he got married last yr. Wow he surely has a lot going. I like Emeril so I wish him the best...he is a riot!

I like Emeril but I don't know if I can handle "All Emeril all the time". Next thing you know, there will be an "Emeril-Land" or the "Emeril-Adventure".

I agree that it seems to be overkill. Guess they're trying to reach other audiences besides those who love to cook. I also don't know where he finds the time!!!

I must start out by saying that Emeril is like any star that becomes very famous. It's like all the boy bands when your a hit your going to be on everything because people want to see you. I think it's fabulous that things are going so well for him and I hope that he stays a hit because he is fun to watch. I also don't think that it is hard to judge someone when you have never been in that situation. I will say too that I think Emeril's presentations are refreshing to me because I like to think that I can eat the dish not that it's too pretty to mess up.
Thanks

I'm not judging him in the least. I'm just wondering, like the Michael Bolton situation in the late 80's, is he going to fizzle because of over-exposure. I certainly don't wish the man ill will. I enjoy watching him on occasion, but it seems he's everywhere.

It's just my opinion, and I'm stickin to it.

I will watch Emeril's new sitcom to see how it is...he can be a dynamic personality. However, I don't find his recipes that interesting lately and sometimes, not even that tasty. I tried a cheese puff appetizer once from his show and found it so bland (and I made it correctly!)

The problem these days with the Food Network is that they're more focused on "personalities who can cook" rather than good cooks who have creativity and expertise.
I preferred the earlier days of the Food Network when they had people like David Rosengarten and John Ash hosting shows. They had real depth to them and you learned so much about cooking and ingredients. Oh well, didn't mean to ramble on but just had to put my 2 cents in! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I must be in the minority. I don't care for Emeril at all!! I discovered him several years ago when he first started his show "Essence Of Emeril". At least on that show, he actually gave some instruction on how to cook. Since "Emeril Live" has been on, he seems to have forgotten how to speak properly. We all use "slang", but he goes to the extreme. If you compare his first show to the second, you'll notice the difference. I know he's performing for a live audience but give us some credit. Also, he doesn't really "teach" us anything other than how to "Bam"??? Okay, I'm sure I've ticked several of you off. Sorry, just my opinion.

The time issue was the first thing to pop into my mind. But one of the major things I discovered was that Emeril Live isn't really live - most often now, it's repeats. Check out the copyright at the end of the show & also note, he rarely has a wedding ring on, since most of the ones I've seen lately were taped before he got married!

As for his restaurants, he's the Executive Chef, meaning he's rarely there & only provides guidance to the restaurants, much like Wolfgang Puck & Spago.

Of course the other question is: What will I watch at 8 eastern time on Tuesdays, Emeril the comedy or Emeril (maybe) Live?

I have to agree with this statement! I used to love watching him, but since he's on all the time, I got kind of tired of him! I'll check out his new sitcom in the fall to see how it is though!

I have been checking out the new Wolfgang Puck and Good Eats shows and they are really fun to watch as well! I just love the food channel!

I agree with you. I don't watch him as much as I used to - I think the food can be rather boring at times and the presentation is not pretty (I love to see presentation, even though I cannot duplicate it).

Anyway, I just can't see it being a hit. How many times can we hear BAM in one day!!!

I like Emeril and his style, yes he has a lot going on right now, but he deserves it, he seems genuine, loves what he does and truely cares about people. I say spread this philosophy, we need people like him.

Oh Leonard, you haven't ticked me off! I was hoping I wouldn't be the only one who doesn't like him. Actually, it's not HIM I don't like - I mean, I'm sure he's quite a nice man, and he probably does care a lot about people (i.e, the Rosie O'Donnell thing). But his SHOW??? YUCK!

I can't relate to it at all. I have never in my life dashed around the kitchen throwing things into the pots and pans shouting "BAM!" It doesn't seem even one bit realistic to me, not to mention the majority of his recipes are unhealthy, so I'd never make them.

I much prefer watching Martha cook, or those CIA shows - you actually learn something from those shows.

Oh well, that's why there's a little something for everyone!

Just thought Id throw this tidbit in...Awhile back Rosie had a young boy (11???) on her show, he is a budding chef and was showing her a dish. ANywaym he was talking about how he has to improvise alot because his parents cant afford good cookware and out comes Emeril (the boys hero) with a full set of cookware for him.

Later on I saw the boy on Emeril's show (with other children) cooking.

I'm with Leonard in that I don't enjoy Emeril. He doesn't make things that I would consider making for my familiy. Additionally, he's just too much of a personality for me. I probably wouldn't watch his sitcom as I have tried to limit my traditional tv watching. What I haven't limited (and in fact increased) is my Food TV and HGTV time.

Emeril is one heck of a Chef, did anyone watch his "Biography" a couple of weeks ago. WOW, he has been into cooking since early childhood and naturally ticked off his parents by going to cooking school. In his early teens he worked FULL TIME for a baker, he did school during the day, came home and ate, slept and then worked the night shift, getting home in time to eat and go to school. I think he was only 13 or 14 at the time!!

He has done some amazing things as a Chef, and he is actually a great teacher. The problem is that the new formats hide this and bring out the "Late Night TV" personna.

I'm not sure about his own sitcom, they have tried this so many times with other actors and it never seems to work.

BUT, Emeril as a psychotic Chef on Law & Order, now THAT would be interesting. Hey, Blues Clues "Steve" did it several years ago and HE was amazing!!

I reached my Emeril saturation point when I came face to face with a life size cutout of him at my local liquor store with a sign that says "let's Fetzer"

Give me Alton Brown over Emeril any old day! I've learned more from Good Eats than any other cooking show.

I agree! Although I like watching Emeril, the Food Network has practically turned into the 24-hr Emeril Network!!!
I wish they'd run Good Eats more often -- it's very educational, and Alton Brown is so witty!

I ADORE Alton Brown!!! I too, have learned a great deal watching his show.

As far as Emeril is concerned -- it probably ISN'T saturation for a large portion of the American public that doesn't have or watch the Food Network and just knows that Emeril is this famous, funny chef.

Sorry to disappoint, but a brief commentary about the new TV season in yesterday's Chicago Tribune described Emeril's show as "deeply forgettable." http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

I think I'll still try to watch it though!

OK, I'll have to agree, Kim. I just didn't want to be the first to say that the whole concept seemed rather weak!

I don't think it'll be on the air very long -- but I'm sure I'll watch it too!

I love watching Emeril and the food that I have made has been excellent. I also had a chance to eat at one of his restaurants and it was sooo delicious. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif I agree that he is on alot (!!!!) but that's great for my schedule. I only get to see his show once in a while and my vcr is on the fritz. ****I think his point is that cooking can be fun and you can enjoy it. I know some people who get so hung up on putting 1/8 of a tsp of salt- etc. I take him for what he's worth and really enjoy the show. The sitcom has me a bit worried though. Sounds like a disaster yet to happen....
