Hi, everyone
I love to cook, and I'm a stay-home mom...but like most folks, we could use extra income. Is anyone out there a personal chef? I have visited the uspca.com website (they have training programs for people who are interested in this) but I would like an opinion from someone who isn't trying to sale me anything. I read that the average income is 34,000.00/yr for a personal chef.
While I'm at it, let's start another poll:
What's your favorite website? (excluding CL, of course)
No personal chef here.
As to the other-than-CL-web site, that's a no-brainer: Epicurious.

Yes, yes. I'm afraid I must second Epicurious.com
The SOAR database maintained by Berkeley is wonderful as well -- lots of good recipes there too, although not as "guaranteed" as epicurious.

Epicurious ranks #1 on my list, followed closely by
SOAR http://www.soar.berkeley.edu/recipes/,
Arielle's Recipe Archives http://recipes.alastra.com, and
Allrecipes.com http://www.allrecipes.com/

www.epicurious.com (http://www.epicurious.com) www.starchefs.com (http://www.starchefs.com)
are good cooking web sites.
About the personal chef & the $ earned it all depends where you live (how much demand there is for a personal chef). In areas with people earning more money and having less time to cook there is more of a demand. I know cooking magazines provide cooking schools info (to become a pers chef). Also this couple @ here started a business going to houses (did grocery shopping) cooking freezing and leaving all in order and label. They charged by the week (for x amounts of dinners). The story was in our local paper. I recall it took them (husband & wife team) two yrs to get it running profitably.
Hope this helps

I'd have to agree with Gail, lorilei, Deanna, and Vanessa.
Epicurious is definitely the site I go to first to find out what I need to know.

There's also a FoodTV website that really has a nice search engine! You can search for wines to go with foods, ethnic dishes, and recipes from specific chefs.
They also release "limited edition" recipes which are only kept on their website for a couple of weeks (legal publishing issues), so you can get a hold of some not-so-public information at times.

Shame on you, tammy!
(However, you hit the mark...I thought the SAME THING!)

Epicurious, definately! A friend told me about it a couple years ago -- it's been a favorite ever since.

I probably use www.epicurious.com (http://www.epicurious.com) and www.foodtv.com (http://www.foodtv.com) the most (besides the Cooking Light site).
