I'm sorry if this has been covered before, but I tried to search and, well...you know how that story ends!

My parents are buying me a wine refrigerator for Christmas - I'm thrilled! My mother has asked me to find one here in Houston so we don't have to ship one. I don't know anything about these...I'm looking for something in the 30-40 bottle range, but I'd appreciate any input on brands, one temp zone or two...or anything else you think is important!

Thanks gang!

Terri - Here's a thread that Ralph started last year:
http://community.cookinglight.com/showthread.php?t=65159&highlight=Wine

Our wine fridge is a Kenmore and (I think) it can hold up to 40 bottles. The one thing I don't like about it is that there is only one temp control, and I wish it had different zones in the fridge and separate temp controls for white and red wine.

I know you are looking for rec. from people who own them but are you a Consumer Reports subscriber? They have a report available on their website. It's dated 12/05 so maybe it is in the December issue of CR?

I don't subscribe to CR - that was my first thought, but you need to be a subscriber to access that article. Thanks though!

Sue -I read the thread that you linked to - thanks for posting it - I'm apparently search-impaired!

There was an article in the Wall Street Journal a few months back comparing different brands. I cut it out and gave it to a friend that was looking to buy one. You may be able to go to their website and search for it.

You can subscribe to the website for about $3 or $4 for a month - then just cancel it as soon as you have the info you want.

We have a Haier which works quite well. I've also seen them at Costco, Sams and Home Depot. Ours holds about 48 bottles and it cost about $400 I think.

As far as CR viewing goes, check out your local Barnes and Noble or other bookstore. It is on their shelves.

I bought a GE Monogram this summer and love it. It has gotten excellent reviews and is in CR as a good product. There are numerous pull out shelves. I didn't plan on spending what I did on this but discovered the real difference in quality by seeing them in person. The drawers on the less expensive models are wobbly and don't pull out smoothly. I am not sure about the ones at Costco but I would say only positive things about the GE model.

Hope this helps.

Ours is a Kitchenaid that we found at the Sears Outlet store on Griggs Road. The Store at Beechnut and Hwy 6 is closing soon. It was around $250 - but was a display, scratch and dent or something.

We got ours to hold water, beer, juice, and wine in order to get all that stuff out of the big fridge. It replaced a cabinet with the kitchen was renovated three years ago. It works well, holds plenty and has 3 temperature levels - the very bottom gets really cold and freezes the water bottles.
