Here's the ubiquitous thread Tiger... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/Forum1/HTML/006617.html
I've always wanted to try kosher salt but have never been able to find it.

Alisa- Thanks, I don't know how I missed that one!
Anyway I know you can get it from Penzey's. It's where a lot of us order our spices. Very fresh! I'd never get my spices from the grocery store again! Cheaper too!

I just happened to remember reading that thread a while ago.
I've requested the Penzeys catalogue but I'm in Canada so shipping may prove to be atrocious - here's hopin'!

I found Kosher Salt at a chain store also, and I believe it's the 'Diamond Cut', and it's in a rectangular box as opposed to the cylinder can most salt comes in. From what the TV Chefs and CL say, Kosher salt has more of a salt flavor than just a salt 'kick', and a little tastes like more. So far, I like cooking with it!

I find that kosher salt works really well with seasoning meat & fish - it tends to stick better than iodized salt.
I do use iodized salt for baking since it has finer texture and dissolves more quickly.

Morton's Salt makes a Kosher Salt and BTW it has nothing to do with freshness and you should be able to purchase it at your local grocer...I am able to here in Podunk, USA!

Kosher salt is usually in a section with other Kosher foods. Sometimes, it's with the other salts, but not always.

Yeap, Kosher salt can be found in just about every grocery store. I have been using it for years and also use in my baking with no problems. I keep a crock filled with kosher salt on my stove where its always handy. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
