View Full Version : POLL: What is your BB "custom"?!!

Hi!
I was just wondering how everyone customarily checks the BB. Not necessarily "how often" (we have covered that in our "addiction" threads!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif )... but rather, HOW do you do it?
For example, I ALWAYS go to the Great Food board first. I don't even always GO to the Healthy Living board, even though I do LOVE IT! I have been checking the Weekend w/ CL board recently, because I am going to Birmingham! But even w/ that, I forget to check it daily.
When I post a new topic, I ALWAYS check the "e-mail notification" box, and I LOVE that feature. BUT I can NEVER seem to remember all my other posts (on topics originally posted by others), and I KNOW I overlook lots of things because I forget to go back and check all the threads. I have even found questions someone has asked me DAYS later - and I feel so bad! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif (And I am sure there are many I have missed altogether!!!) So -- how do YOU guys keep it all straight - or don't you, either?!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
BTW, I DON'T usually click on the "View Today's Active Topics" -- do you? But I am wondering if that is "the ticket"?!!!
So... any other helpful hints/tips/suggestions/etc would be greatly appreciated! Because I am SURE there must be a better way than my pathetic "hit or miss"!!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
THANKS!
Lynn

LynnB...I have it bookmarked to come right to the forum menu and just click on Great Food. I very, very rarely go to the Health Living Forum unless this one is very slow or know that the pregnant Susan's post there waiting for their arrival notices. I don't know what the E-mail notification function is unless you mean the one where you click and e-mail the page to a friend. Can you tell me what this function is? As far as remembering, I have no tricks to remember what was posted or which ones I have or haven't etc. I just seem to remember most of them when I get there or just open them ALL up. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Lynn,
I have "Great Foods" in my favorites and go directly to that board.
I also check the CL weekend board. I'm going too (can't wait to meet you) so the closer it gets the more I check.
I could never get the e-mail notification thing to work for me when I post a subject. I'm not sure why it doesn't work. Do you have to sign up for that feature?
If you do a "search" using your user name you'll come up with some things you might have missed.
When I first got on the board I guess it wasn't as popular. Now it's so fast if you miss a day you could be lost!

Mamasue,
The "e-mail notification" is under the type-in box when you "Post a New Topic". It says "OPTIONS" and offers two choices. The first is the e-mail notification (you will receive an e-mail every time someone responds to your topic) Very fun! I got LOTS of e-mail notifications for the quirks/phobias thread!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif The second option is "Disable Smilies in this Post" (why would anyone check THAT box, I have to wonder?!!!)
Tiger, I wouldn't have ANY idea why that (e-mail notification) doesn't work for you???!! It ALWAYS works for me. The only "requirement" as far as I can tell, is that you must be a registered user -- which obviously you are!!! (Oh, and I'm sure you must have to have your e-mail address posted in your profile! Do you?) If so,then I would ask Maelynn about it on the BB Tech Support Board.
Anyway - thanks for your replies!
(BTW, Tiger, I am looking forward to meeting you in B'ham, too!!! And Mamasue - we'll miss you!!!!)
Lynn

And the strange thing it works for me on other boards just not this one. (Which I spend 90% of my time on!)
Thanks for you suggestion thought I will contact Maelynnn about this.

Actually when I went to post this I saw I did post this question back in March, just never got a reply. I bumped it up to the top.

It is my custom to check the board through my "Favorites" list. Three clicks and I'm on the board. I know which ones that I have an interest in because the color for the thread is different (ie originally the list is blue, those I have visited are now red and the history is set for 10 days).

I have the Great Food on my Desk Top so it's only one click and I'm there--how lazy is that? Then I use the "hop to" to get to Healthy Living, which I love reading, but rarely post on.

I have it listed in my cooking link. When I get in, I start at yesterday's threads and work towards the latest threads. Since we are changing our email, I stopped using the email notification- but looking now at the frame, I don't see it. I only have one option, which is disable smilies. Perhaps because I don't have my email address listed. Previously I had it listed but two people emailed me with spam http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif so I deleted it!!
I rarely go to any other bb because this one is so busy to keep up with all the great information!! I do also go to the Healthy bb, as did Mamasue!!

I check the boards almost every day because there's always something new there to learn, but I haven't bothered yet to put bookmark it. I always check Great Food first because it's always at the top I guess, and then I check Healthy Living. I've never even looked at the Supper Club boards! Maybe I should.

Susan L,
There is only the one option (disable smilies) when you are responding to a post. The TWO options (the other being the e-mail notification) only appear to you once, when YOU post a NEW TOPIC.
Mamasue, (aka GRAPHICS GURU!!!)
You have NO IDEA how tickled I am to be able to teach YOU something you didn't already know! I never dreamed that was possible!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif (Me??? I couldn't post a graphic if my life depended on it!!!!) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

LynnB....you can do anything you want as long as you put your mind to it. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Look at all the things I am learning. You showed me something I didn't even know about....thanks Lynn! Every day is a learning experience!

Ok, this is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY freaky.
I was thinking of posting this as a topic about 5 minutes ago.
The Cooking Light Community is on my favorites list.
This is my weird habit:
1) Go back to where last post I had read previously ended.
2) Reply to any messages I want.
3) After submitting my reply I don't jump back to the BB, I hit the back buttons to get back to the post I had been reading.
4) This way, after catching up from the weekend or the evening, I have today's new posts to read.
Do you think I need professional help?
