Hi everyone

We are having Apple Cider Crisp for dessert tonight.. I thought it might be nice to have a hot alcoholic beverage with it. My first thought was Mulled Cider, but all the recipes are non-alcoholic. I read the recipe for Hot Buttered Rum, but  it has a pound of butter, 2 lbs of sugar and a gallon of iceream in it!!! I wonder if it would taste good to have Hot Apple Cider with rum?!!? I also have a few other spirits in the cupboard, including a little Cointreau and vanilla vodka.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks!

If you're looking for something with apple cider in it, how about a Hot apple pie?

1½ oz. Tuaca
Hot apple cider

Pour Tuaca in a 10oz mug, then fill with cider. You can top with whipped cream if you want.

These are alway nummy!

I have other hot drink recipes if this isn't something you want, just let me know.

I get a hot mug of this apple cider & Tuaca at the Green Mountain Inn in Stowe, Vermont. Great topped with whipped cream and a cinnamon stick for stirring. After a walk in the snow, this is the best! I love this drink, & highly recommend this one.

Kim - thank you! What a great idea.
I have a box of Mulling Spices (RW Knudsen, organic) - they look just like tea bags - I wonder if I mildly spiced the cider if it would taste weird to then add Tuaca? This could be the Perfect Holiday Drink!

I've made hot cider with Cointreau - orange liqueur - in addition to sliced oranges & a cinnamon stick. It was quite tasty.

Kuvy,
My favorite favorite, favorite hot alcoholic drink is Mulled Wine. You can never find it down here in the south, so a quick and easy substitute (not as good, but it works!) is to heat up Sangria (I use Cruz Garcia) with some mulling spices! Works like a charm. Last night at a restaurant I asked the waitress for Mulled Wine (again), and of course they did not have it. I asked them to heat up some Sangria - which they had - and it was perfect! They were all so surprised. I wonder if they'll start serving it now!

OOh...OOOh...me too Lynne!!! I have a few recipes for mulled wine but will use your suggestion in a resturant...it is so comforting!!!

We had a fire pit gathering last night (I know...Florida and a fire pit dont mix but it was actually COOL last night!!!)

We had a few neighbors over to enjoy a nice fire in the backyard. One of our neighbors is from Germany (they are here for a few years) they brought a thermos of " HOT WINE"...it was DELICIOUS. I tried to find out what is in it but they get it shipped from Germany already mixed with the spices.

Well....today I got my new MS Everday Food and on the back page is a recipe for "Mulled Wine" Wahoooo!!! What a coincidence!!!! (sp?) Following is a recipe from MS everyday food and another recipe I found online from Germany:

Here is the MS recipe:

MS everyday food Mulled Wine (http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=recipe1980087&page=&dp=false&layout=Print&styleType=learn)

Mulled Wine

Serves 4; Prep time: 15 minutes; Total time: 45 minutes

1 large orange

2 cardamom pods

6 whole cloves

6 allspice berries

6 whole black peppercorns

1 cinnamon stick, plus 4 for garnish (optional)

1 bottle (3 cups) fruity red wine

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup brandy

1. With a fine grater, zest, then juice the orange.

2. With the flat side of a knife, press firmly on the cardamom pods to bruise them. In a large pot (not aluminum), combine zest, juice, cardamom, cloves, allspice, peppercorns, cinnamon, wine, sugar, and brandy. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until sugar dissolves, 1 to 2 minutes.

3. Reduce heat to low; simmer until flavors have melded, about 30 minutes. Pour through a fine-mesh sieve; garnish with cinnamon stick, if desired. Serve immediately.

Here is a link to a German recipe:

Glühwein (http://www.germany-info.org/relaunch/culture/life/gluehwein.html)

MULLED WINE (Glühwein)

Germans enjoy Glühwein or "Glow Wine" quite a bit around Christmas and New Year's Day. A favorite place to sip a warming glass is outside at the Christmas market.

(makes 24 glasses)

Ingredients:.

2 bottles red wine
1 cup sugar
3 cups water
1 lemon, sliced
20 whole cloves
6 to 8 cinnamon sticks
1 orange, sliced for garnish
Directions:

Mix water, lemon and spices and simmer for an hour. Strain. Heat but do not boil the red wine. Add wine to hot water mixture. Ladle into cups and serve with half a slice of orange.
