My wife, as wives do, has suggested that we not exchange gifts with each other for Christmas. As wise guys know, either because they’ve previously taken their lumps or because they were forewarned by their friends, this translates into, ‘You’d better no show up Christmas morn’ without at least a little something’. :D
So here’s my thinking... My wife is getting a digital camera from her folks for Christmas. This is a fitting gift as she’s wanted one for a long time, and is already trigger happy with her film camera. Also, she is really into scrapbooking, and has commented over and over again how a digital camera could help take her hobby to the next level. For something little, I’d like to get her a book on photography. She’s always just been a sort of point, shot, and hope for the best, but has started putting a little more thought into it lately. What I’d like is a book that would help with this. I’ve done some searches at Amazon, etc., but it’s just too darned hard to tell if the books cover what I’m looking for. So, here are some specifics to help focus my question:
The camera she’s getting has 4x zoom and some manual settings to play with shutter speed, exposure, f stops, and some other lingo I’m not really very familiar with. However, it is not an SLR, and really is still just a point and shot style of camera. So, I’d like to find her a book that is not too focused on SLR, with tips that apply mostly to her point and shot style. Wrapping up with more of the manual adjustments would be OK. It would be preferable if it were a book on digital cameras, but not necessary. It’d be even better if the book were to focus on photography for scrapbooking as that is her biggest use of the camera. And best of all would be a book like this that was written in plain English, not pages and pages of techie talk or geek speak that explain every last detail of the how’s and why’s.
I’d be grateful for any recommendations, advice, or whatever you care to offer.
TIA
