The baby shower finally arrived and my cake turned out awesome-ly.

I used the chocolate fudge groom's cake recipe from Wilton and make both chocolate and vanilla sheet cakes. I mopped both cakes with a vanilla flavored simple syrup and stuck them in the fridge to firm up a little. I used the vanilla cake for the body base and carved the other pieces out of the chocolate cake. The belly is a double layer. I used a custard based buttercream that was posted on this website by CompassRose and is from the Village Baker's Wife cookbook. This frosting was great because it gets hard when chilled and made for easy transporting in the trunk of my car (which was colder than my fridge!).

This was my first attempt at "fancy" frosting and I'm really pleased with the way everything turned out.

Very impressive! I'm having a hard time picturing how the double layer is set up for the belly. It looks so round!

Thanks everybody!

Knunes - The belly is made from two stacked rounds of cake (to make a mini layer cake) which I then carved into a spherical shape with a sharp knife. The breasts were carved too, just using a single layer instead of two.
