Anyone fancy a taste of the Ministry of Funny Walks? Dead parrots? Or how about slapping Manuel from Barcelona?
(if none of that made sense to you, you're reading the wrong thread)
For those of you who enjoy John Cleese, let me just rub it in a little. Last Saturday night Dr Love and I went to see his new show - John Cleese - His Life, Times And Current Medical Problems. It was very very strange and very very wonderful. Mainly it was a fascinating wander down memory lane, as he talked about Monty Python and Fawlty Towers and his parents and where his comedy comes from. There were also slides of his recent surgery, for those that may be interested in such things...
Marvellous. Just marvellous. Cross your fingers and toes that he brings the show back to the US.

I adore John Cleese all the way from the Monty Python days. I watched Fawlty Towers, too. I watch him in anything - he was on Will & Grace a few years ago - the man is so funny! Lucky you to have seen him!

I read somewhere that he lives in Santa Barbara, CA. (So maybe at the end of the tour, he'll do shows in CA.)

I bought DH the box set of all 12 episodes of Fawlty Towers last Christmas. DD (age 14) loved it so much she brought it to a sleepover and introduced all her friends to it!
We love John Cleese any way we can get him. It would be awesome to see him live. Lucky you!

Yes, lucky you, Paula! Anything he does is hilarious. I discovered Fawlty Towers in high school, then Monty Python, etc. We find new things to laugh at every time we watch them. Heck, even that episode of Cheers he was in had us hysterical!

I subscribe to the newsletter for his web site (www.thejohncleese.com), and read about his touring NZ. I'm very jealous! :D

How exciting! We have the complete collection of Monty Python on CD. I'd love to see him in person.

I hope that does come here!
There was a rerelease of Holy Grail a couple of years ago. The theater in Santa Monica had a costume contest and John Cleese was there to give the prize for best costume.
DH threw together a monk costume and did a little speech in a very funny English accent. I don't remember what he said. But when he was introduced to John Cleese, John asked him what part of England he came from!!! DH changed back to his regular voice, and ansered, "Pittsburgh."

I'll cross my fingers that he does perform some dates when he returns to the US (yes, he lives in California, we got to see a slide show of his ranch). I didn't know what to expect from his show, but it was really great. Especially when he asked us to call out our favourite Python sketch and ended up performing (luckily people called it out!) the Dead Parrot sketch, but New Zealand-ised - so instead of a parrot, he had a sheep... :D :D

He'd be so fun to hear live! There was an article on CNN this weekend talking about the voices on GPS devices and John Cleese is actually one of the voices for TomTom! How great would it be to have him tell you where to go?! I've been debating getting the tomtom go 300 lately because of the tele atlas maps, door-to-door directions, etc., but this might just push me over the edge :)

Snort - I can just imagine him telling you where to go... "And where do you think you're going, eh, eh?? What a complete pillock, I told you to turn right, didn't I??!!" ;) ;)

Paula, hee :) That's totally how it would be. There are also supposed to be a lot of other fun voices on the TomTom 300 too...even Yoda! Hmmm...drive this way you should?
