View Full Version : Is anyone still getting emails with the SoberX virus?

My ISP is still telling me they've blocked emails with the SoberX virus. I'm not complaining of course, but usually these virus things run their course like their medical counterparts - a few days and they're gone. I have been receiving tainted emails since the beginning and they continue through today.
I've received a lot of spam lately but I put that down to the time of year and/or my selling on ebay although that's been going on for a few years now so it's probably not that. I'd feel better if I knew that other people were still getting these SoberX notices.
Thanks!

I have been getting about 1 notice a day from ISP about the virus. I was wondering the same thing, just that it seemed like it should have run it's course by now. And yes, this morning there was more spam than usual.

That stuff almost always gets filtered out, but for this one I am receiving a ton of e-mails...I don't know if it is my ISP or my anti-virus software, but I guess I need to figure it out.

Showing my computer ignorance here, but how do you know if you have gotten one of these? I have been getting a lot of emails about new registration info, or a new email address from someone I don't know. I just deleted them since I didn't recognize the sender.

Exactly the right response to delete without opening...some are from cia.gov or fbi.gov; most of the subject lines I am getting are related to Paris Hilton/Nicole Richie, password info, registration info, "you are visiting illegal websites" (what, CLBB?), mail undeliverable, or SMTP transfer failed. I think the Sober virus keeps mutating - this is the first time I have had a problem with receiving them, although it's been around for a while.

Actually those emails stopped - thank god!
I am still getting them. Had 3 more this morning, but they have slowed down a lot. Does this mean someone I know still has an infected computer? I've deleted them all without opening and haven't had a problem yet (other than a slight annoyance), but it still concerns me a little when they keep getting through.

As of 2 days ago, they have finally stopped...KNOCK on wood!
I wish these idiots would use their brains for good not evil.
I got 10 more since this morning. Actually I wasn't looking that closely as I deleted -- one or 2 may have been other junk mail, but still! I wish I could find a way to block them. I've got enough stuff that should.

Came across this yesterday at cnn.com, so we apparently haven't heard the last of sober.
Not a single one has made it through my ISP spam blocker, though I lost count after about 30 or 40 messages.
Clock's ticking on new Sober onslaught (http://news.com.com/Clocks+ticking+on+new+Sober+onslaught/2100-7349_3-5985950.html?part=rss&tag=5985950&subj=news)
