I currently buy Fit! magazine regularly, but have been disappointed with it lately. I'm looking at switching to either Fitness or Shape (along with Cooking Light of course!) and was wondering which one you all prefer. I like recipes, fitness ideas and health news. Recommendations....

I personally like the set up of Shape better than fitness http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I have enjoyed reading Shape for several years now. Unfortunately, I let my subscription run out and haven't had a chance to re-start it yet!

Shape has some really good features...
An exercise for a new muscle gruop every month
An article with exercises based on different types of fitness (yoga, pilates - for example)
Some cooking tips with recipes
I really love the stories of how people lost their weight and kept it off
There also has been a series for more than a year that has followed one woman through her battle with weight loss - helps put things in perspective when you look at things through her eyes

Hope this helps! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

As someone who gets both Shape and Fitness, I would recommend Shape -- I think it is more accessable and a better read (I hate to admit I rarely try any of the workouts)

Another vote for Shape. Fitness seems to be aimed at teens and women in their early 20s. The models are SOOO young! I think Shape has too much beauty information, but their workouts are great. Has anyone here tried the recipes in Shape? A couple of years ago, I bought a cookbook by one of their food writers and never tried a single recipe in it. Now the book doesn't appeal to me at all. Anyone remember that short-lived magazine Shape Cooks?

I like Shape for sure...
great inspirational stories, pretty decent articles and a different focus each month.

I know it's not totally a fitness magazine per se, but I also really like Self. It combines more of a mind, body, spirit element over the other mags.

Have you looked at Walking Magazine? It has lots of great stuff, not only about walking.

Contrary to poular opinion on the BB, I actually prefer Fitness. I do read Shape too however, so I like that one well enough as well.

I get Shape and Health magazines, and I prefer Health to Shape. I've never seen Fitness.

Although I'm not planning to renew my Shape subscription next year, I much prefer it to Fitness
I think the writing itself is much better in Shape, and it has much more informative information about nutrition, mental health, etc. I think I also think its approach to fitness is much more sound than that of Fitness; the latter is way, way too concerned with calorie-cutting and following the current trend.
The reason I'm not renewing, though, is more because I just don't really get anything out of it anymore -- the topics are often recycled, and I never followed any of the diet plans or workout schedules. I'm a Runner's World junkie. Got 5 years of those things sitting in my closet. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I haven't seen Shape too much and will have to check it out but I recently got a subscription to Health and like that one. I've also been getting Walking for several years now and really enjoy that magazine as well. It's true, as someone else stated, that it's not just about walking.

Thanks for all the feedback - you're great! Can anyone offer me a content comparison between Shape and Self?
