Hi all,
I have a couple of really ripe anjou pears that are soft to touch - any idea what to do with them? I can't find a recipe to use them up.
Thanks for the suggestions!
I have a cranberry-pear crisp recipe at home I can post later today or tomorrow if the pears can wait that long!!

Sandee - I have the same issue! I was thinking about finding a chutney type recipe, making it, and freezing for some later date. Problem is...I haven't found the recipe yet!

Slice them thinly and place on bottom of greased 9/12 oven pan and cover with your favorite coffee cake recipe and bake as normal or maybe poach them for dessert? I've never poached pears but have had some really good ones at a friend's house (family secret recipe so I can't pass it on to you).

You could also mash them into a homemade applesauce, too, if you're looking for something simple.
Or a really terific salad is lettuce of choice, arugula or mesculan mix is nice, but butter lettuce works too. Nice dressing, maybe with a little toasted walnut oil in it. Add pears, sliced into thin wedges, and some blue cheese, and toasted walnuts or hazelnuts. Classic combination.

One of my favorite things to do with pears is to put them in a baguette sandwich. I just halve the baguette, layer thin, even slices of pear on one side and smear ripe Brie on the other. Toast, and you're all set. Easy and so, so good.
