Anyone else having a problem finding grapes at the supermarket? Ours have not had them for over a month! I miss them!
I'm told it was a quality problem or a problem with the supplier. I just wondered if any of the grape-growing areas had a bad season or something??!!

I've seen them in PA - either they are too expensive, or they don't look good, so I haven't bought them in a while. DH is the only one that eats them here.

Love grapes.... and our supermarkets/fruit stands have had grapes (green and red) on a steady basis. The price has climbed since the winter months but they are still available. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

It does seem like the quality and quantity have gone down lately. I'm embarassed to admit that I paid $3.99 a pound yesterday for some green grapes that aren't all that good. They're very small and round, as opposed to those huge ones I like.

Most grapes in the winter and spring come from South America. Their season is winding down and domestic grapes haven't come into season yet, so we're just in-between seasons. We should see more grapes in a few weeks when the domestic supply cranks up.

Thanks for the info SusanT. I finally found some today and they were $1.99/pound.

I was noticing grapes were $3.99 here...
NOTHING of interest seems to be in season here. The apples are old and mealy. The oranges past their peak. I'm tired of pineapples (at $5 each). Bananas are 69 cents a pound, which I think is outrageous. Melons are expensive and just not tasty. Local strawberries should be coming soon (the imports have been OK). And I just planted a couple of raspberry bushes -- which gives me hope starting next year.
Don't mind me. Just venting.

The New Zealand apples are looking good, as well as the South American pears. But yes, alas it's not quite melon and peach time. It's also down time for sweet potatoes, which saddens me greatly...

What I found out last weekend is that they are out of season right about now. I was doing veggie and fruit trays for a party and I couldn't find any grapes and so I asked and they said that they were out of season but would be in soon. I just saw an ad in my newspaper about the new batch of grapes just in! I would check your supermarket in the coming week.

I love grapes, but totally refuse to pay $4.00 a pound or more. I hope that the price will go down here when they are in season domestically. As for bananas, $.69 a pound is sometimes cheap here!

And Kirby, those are the most healthy ones (it's the pigment in the Concord grapes that makes them so healthy), so your EXTRA lucky, and I'm EXTRA envious!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
