Birmingham Information please!!

Can anybody recommend interesting markets & places w good wine selection to visit while in Birmingham next month?? TIA.

I live in Birmingham, but I can't say I am much of an authority on markets or wine shops. I am a fairly recent "foodie" and am still busy discovering the wonderful ingredients I find at the grocery store!

I can tell you about my favorite wine shop: The Vintage Wine Shoppe - located on Hwy 280 in the Inverness Area (about 4-6 miles east on 280 from your hotel). It is managed by a lovely lady named Patti, who is so helpful and knowledgeable. They have a great selection, and they do wine tastings every Thursday (5-7pm) and Friday (4-6pm). They also have cheeses, gourmet foods, and cigars (which my husband enjoys).

One of my favorite restaurants in Birmingham is Nabeel's, and it is located in Homewood (near the CL headquarters). It is mostly Greek, and they have a market attached to the restaurant with all kinds of neat ingredients.

Klynn or anyone else who might know,
In another message Maelynn gave us links to websites for some restaurants. How do I dress for more expensive places?? Some cities are dressier than others. Could you help me out?? TIA

In Birmingham, I would say most people wear fairly "normal" clothes - even to the nicer places...i.e. a cute outfit you might wear out on a date or something...make sense?

Once, my husband was taking me to the opera...I wore a long, black, evening-type dress to one of these restaurants...and was the only one dressed like that. Not that I felt strange...it was appropriate...more that everyone else just had on more normal clothes.

We are the Deep South after all...when every meal is served with sweet tea, you can't be TOO fancy!!
