How are ya'll storing frosted cookies?? I made the cranberry/orange cookies from Joe's blog (GREAT cookie) and Val' pepperment meltaways (YUMMY). They were great tasting and great looking on the cooling racks... they were cool and dry... Then I put them in baggies and THEY ALL STUCK TOGETHER  How am I supposed to store frosted cookies. THANKS!

I store mine in Rubbermaid or Tupperware containers with waxed paper or plastic wrap between each row of cookies.

Generally, cookbooks recommend frosting after thawing as many frostings don't hold up as well as the actual cookie.

That said, you need to freeze the cookies on cookie trays until the frosting is very solid and then stack between layers of parchment or wax paper in a freezer container. You would then have to take out in single layers before thawing to try to preserve the frosting.

She didn't mention freezing the cookies.

Yes you are correct -- Any cookie with soft freezing can't be stacked if you want to preserve the frosting -- some will inevitablt become smooshed especially when presentation is an issue. Many frostings don't harden at room temperature -- others do. The cream cheese/butter cream one's don't while the glazed ones made chiefly of confectioners sugar seem to harden up the next day even at room temperature.

For short term storage, I put on large disposable tin pans I had gotten at the 99 cent store and covered with Saran Wrap. The ones that didn't have frosting issues were put in multiple layers -- The tins were great and I think I paid 50 cents each -- can't say I would roast a turkey in one though - that would be scary :p

Thank you. Now I know, layers of waxed paper between my layers of frosted cookies. Freezing wasn't an issue this time, as I made them on the weekend for distribution this week.
