I'm with you too. I am at work and have gotten nothing but voicemail as I try to contact my customers. This is going to be a very long 4 days at this rate.
So, what has you down, anything in particular?

I can't cheer you up cuz I'm grumpy today too! There was a woman at the store the other day singing x-mas songs to herself, I almost ask her to keep it to herself!

I'm not so much grumpy today as feeling guilty. My boyfriend is in town for one of our rare visits, and I have no time off...so poor Drew is sitting at home watching TV with my cat while I'm at work. I'm a lousy girlfriend. At least I have a 4 day weekend coming up. Don't you have a nice little mini-escape from work coming up?

Not wanting to turn this into a Vent thread and bring anyone else down with me ... but I hate being sick this time of year, and I was really sick all last week, so I'm really behind. And as far as work, I'm just really TIRED of the lack of common consideration everyone has for one another, you know? Pettiness, not thinking of each other, etc... sigh....
Susan - I'm going to get yours mailed out this week. Finished getting everything, just need to package it up. ;)

:D Here's a joke....
Q: Do you know why seagulls fly over the ocean?

:D Here's a joke....
Q: Do you know why seagulls fly over the ocean?
'Cause if they flew over the bay, they'd be bagels!
(my 6yo ds's favorite joke)
I hadn't heard that one. I'll have to tell it to the boys.
I am sick again. Seems I am always sick for my birthday and/or Christmas -- just the inevitable result of having to cram so much into the last week or two of school. I thought I was doing better this year, but I had a couple of late nights after being around the school all day. Lack of sleep and germ factories. At least my shopping is done and I'm trying to take it easy so I can cook and clean for Christmas Eve soon. I'm glad DH is off this week so he can help and we can all just hang out a bit. We've all been tired. I'm not really grumpy, but I feel pewey and can get crabby. Not sure that's a lot different, but I'm trying not to be grumpy or whiney.

OK, I never said it was a grown up joke! My son told that one on tv once during the morning news cast...if he was six it would have been ok....he is the meteorologist!!! He did get grown up groans instead of laughs from the anchor....
Hope you are feeling better soon. ;)

MISSINDI and Beth,
Sorry y'all are sick! Wish I had a magic wand to make you better but since I don't, how about a little something to make you smile:
Disco Santa (http://www.northpole.com/Clubhouse/DancingSanta/)

I'll have to tell that joke to my nephews!
I'm a tad grumpy today too. Portland was suppose to be shut down today because of the "ice storm of the century" (or at least this winter so far :D ) but the temperature warmed up 2 degrees and we have some slush and more rain and alas my office is open. Guess I shouldn't have put off those household chores until today! Everything's slow going though because people *expected* it to be bad this morning.

Thanks, Jen, the dancing santa made me laugh ... and although the joke was a groaner, a meterologist telling it on the news is funny! Just that time of year ... too much to do, not enough time to do it, and I'm trying really hard to relax and slow down so I can get better. I'm done with shopping, so that's good news. Now to just get my Christmas cards out, wrap a mountain of presents, plan the Christmas Eve Feast of 7 Fishes Menu ... and I think that's it. Just need to get through the week...

I know it's so overwhelming this time of year, but just keep repeating: Babysteps, babysteps. . . :D

Make it up to him tonight. If you play your cards right, he won't even _remember_ today, much less feel bad about it....

That is pretty much a cure all. :D
Maybe he actually enjoyed hanging out with your cat. Does he like cats?
Sorry you're having a bad week, Missindi. :( The rudeness of others during this time of year especially just amazes me...and it's worse when you just feel awful.
Here's a cartoon to cheer you up:

Enjoyed this thread, because we're not having such a great time here either. Went to a couple holiday parties Fri & Sat, and apparently DH & I got food poisoning. You know, the kind where you're in the bed thinking you're going to die at 11, then in the bathroom at midnight doing you-know-what, and then the next day barely able to get up. :(
I'd planned to do Christmas cards today, but just didn't feel up to it. Oh well, at least we seem to be getting better.
Dreamer, sorry about that. Whether its food poisoning or a bug, that's pretty miserable. Hope you're feeling a lot better soon.

Oh, dreamer, food poisoning is the worst! Last time I got it, I was 3 months pregnant with Nicholas and I couldn't even keep down water for FOUR days. I felt like I was dying ... all from a catered Valentine's Day dinner for me and my DH.
On a happy note, I DID manage to get through 97% of my Christmas cards last night and they're going in the mail today, so that's a nice slash through something on my list. Jen, you're absolutely right ... I've been saying "baby steps" a lot! Calling the doctor today to see about getting more meds since I should be doing better than this, but in the meantime, today's only project is getting table settings for Christmas Eve... and making it through the work day!

Gingerpow, Missindi, and Beth,
Thank you all SO much for the sympathy. DH & I are better now: Yay! :)
Now if only those holiday card writing elves had gotten to work while I was sick! Anyway, thanks again for your caring. -dreamer
P.S. And there's an upside: I don't have to worry about gaining any weight from those holiday parties. ;)
P.P.S. And Laura the strike sounds awful!

Hope you're feeling more cheery now, Missindi!
I had a whole week of grumpiness last week topped off by that nightmarish shopping trip that I mentioned in my email, but this week is much better. Part of it was PMS, I think.
This year I had to let go of many things I generally do around the holidays, just to keep from feeling too much stress. Between starting a fulltime job at the end of October and then moving near the end of November, I just knew I couldn't get it all done.
So.......stuff sits in the garage and other parts of the house, waiting to be organized and put away. The Christmas cards didn't get done. The homemade gifts from our boys didn't get done. Etc., etc. Had I tried to do it all, I would have been a mess and who benefits from that? Certainly not me and certainly not my family. Maybe next year I'll get back to a routine and get more done, but I'm letting go of any guilt this year - it just isn't worth it.
So, I hope you are relaxing and taking time to enjoy the season. I think we need to release ourselves from the notion that we have to do it all. If doing something makes you crazy and doesn't bring you joy in some measure, maybe it's not worth it.
That said, I must now get off the computer to do laundry, wrap presents, pack for our trip tomorrow, get an oil change, go to the Post Office, bake some cookies (but only if I have time - that's my one disposable task for today), and pay some bills. ;)
I'm trying really hard not to have a grumpy morning after my run away and join the circus night to top off what has been a couple of months of too much. The foot through the ceiling was just the last straw for my nerves, and I've woken up with a terrible sinus headache. I'm very afraid of it turning to an infection by Christmas. Doubt I could get in to a doctor, but it's not there yet, so I think it would be a wasted trip anyway.
Ack! More whining was not the point of my post. Rather, I wanted to agree that we need to release ourselves from the notion of doing it all. If that ever happens, great. But most of the time, less will do very nicely. I've bought tamales rather that trying the homemade ones I wanted so much to do. We're simplifying the dessert options and not going to have the big cookie tray. I had hope to paint a room while DH was off this week, but that's gone out the window too. Even so, I'm sure everyone will eat, open packages and have a nice evening -- even if I have to pack the various fundraising projects and other unfinished projects into the back of the van for the evening. ;) :D

Well I actually made it into work today, at least for the morning. Ended up going back to my old doc on Tuesday 'cause I just couldn't take it anymore and I had a sinus infection ... bad enough that he wants a cat scan. But in the meantime, got new antiobiotics. I just feel bad that Nicholas asks me, "Mommy, are you feeling better today?" And I'm trying not to let the holidays get ruined...
Beth - how are YOU feeling? Sometimes I think joining the circus is JUST the ticket.
