This is what we are having for dessert tonight. The original recipe was from Taste of Home.

Pear Custard Bars

1/2 cup butter, softened
1/3 cup white sugar
3/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cup pecans, chopped

1 (8 oz.) brick cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 (15 oz.) can pears, drained and cut into slices*
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon**

*can be substituted with peaches
** a little nutmeg is nice too.

Cream butter and sugar until well mixed. Beat in flour and vanilla until creamy. Stir in nuts. Press into an 8" pan that has been well breased. Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes or until the edges are browned. Cool completely.

Cream the creamcheese with the remaining sugar, vanilla, and egg until combined. Spread mixture over cooled crust. Layer pears on top, mix cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle over pears. Bake at 375°F for 28-30 minutes.

Cool and store in the refrigerator at least 2 hours before serving.

A friend makes something similiar. They were great!

PEAR BARS

CRUST

2 cubes butter or margarine
2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar

Mix flour and sugar together. Add butter, mix until crumbly. Spread in a 9x13 pan, press like you would a cheese cake crust only with your fingers. Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
Will be golden brown.

FILLING

2 8oz. packages of cream cheese
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla

Whip with mixer until smooth. Remove crust from oven and pour evenly over top. Reset oven temperature to 375 degrees.

TOPPING

1 large can of pear halves drained and sliced
Cinnamon
Sugar

Lay sliced pears on top of filling. Mix sugar and cinnamon together. Then sprinkle over entire top. Return to oven and bake for 25 minutes at 375 degrees. Chill. Eat & enjoy.

Note: It is easier to cut into bars after it's been chilled if you make the first cut when the pan is warm.
