Can I substitute green pepper jelly for the red? I have green on hand which is a jalapeno (but it is sweetened). The grocery store I went to did not have the red.
Does this even sound good to you?
Pepper Jelly Glazed Carrots
1 pkgs. baby carrots
1 can chicken broth
2T. butter
1 10 1/2 oz. jar red pepper jelly
It is cooked and the jelly glazes the carrots.
Thanks for your help.
I suspect that your recipe says red because the color make a prettier glaze over the carrots, but other than that, I think it's fine. The melted jelly may not have that much color anyway.
There are some brands where one color is mild or sweet and the other color is a hotter jelly, so you might check that out.
As for taste -- yes. I've used pepper jelly as a glaze for meat or veggies. I think you'll like it.

IMO, the red and green pepper jellies are wonderful, but each in their own way.
I love CL's Fire and Spice ham, which uses the red pepper jelly.
The red Tabasco brand pepper jelly has red pepper flakes in it, the green has jalapeno peppers. I think this pretty much gives them totally different character/flavor, and I wouldn't necessarily substitute one for the other, particularly not for something with a delicate flavor like carrots.
I like the flavors of the Tabasco brand jellies so much I just don't buy others now, FWIW, so I don't remember what they tasted like in comparison.
Oops, edited to add: If it were me, and the red pepper jelly weren't available, I'd get a jar of apple jelly and melt it, and add some red pepper flakes (but not too many) and then use that for my recipe.
