For all you Iron Chef fans, the big rematch between Iron Chef Morimoto and Bobby Flay is this weekend!

Who are you pulling for? (I'm in Morimoto's camp myself)

I haven't watched much of Iron Chef (I can't stand the hosts and the giggle lady), but Bobby Flay is such a bore I think.
So I'm going with Morimoto.

I think I'm in the minority here, and I'm sorry if I put anyone off - the show doesn't do a thing for me. I've seen it three times (I usually give anything three chances), and I can't even consider it entertaining.

That said, probably one of my least favorite hosts on FoodTV is Bobby Flay. I can't put my finger on it, but I prefer Alton Brown, Sarah Moulton, The Naked Chef, and even Emeril (albeit my rant on his overexposure on another thread).

So, I guess I'm pulling for The Other Guy (if I had to make a choice!!!) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

We don't get FoodTV, but we manage to catch it when we're out of town!! (Argg, I love FoodTV!)

Anyhow, I think Bobby Flay is too egotistical he bugs me. I'm rooting for Morimoto!

Someone please post who wins!

i missed the first one. I take it Flay didn't win? I agree that he's egotistical, too. What time is it this weekend so I can catch it????

I am not a huge fan of that show, but if I have to choose sides I would pick whoever is up against Bobby Flay. I cannot stand that man! He strikes me as incredibly arrogant.

I'm with the crowd that just can't get into this show, and I've given it plenty of chances too! To me the badly decorated host looks like he just emerged out of a coffin, and that bubbleheaded woman or man (can't tell) who keeps saying "Keeson??" (or whatever his name is) 43 times per show just makes me want to rip the cord out of the wall. I also want to know how the giggling Miss Tokyo or whoever that is is QUALIFIED to judge such an intense contest! She doesn't look like she eats much anyway, and if she's a model chances are she visits the bathroom right after eating all that stuff anyway! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

I've also always thought that Bobby Flay was highly overrated. When he got zapped by that live wire on the last contest I actually started laughing because he was obviously not hurt, but he was cussing up a storm! Doesn't anyone else crack up at that commercial advertising the new 'showdown' where Bobby looks and sounds like a WWF Wrestler? "This time the gloves come off!!" Please!!

I know I will watch it just to see what perils Bobby endures this time, but I'm trying to figure out how they thought a grill cook from the Southwest was competition for a Culinary Expert like those Iron Chefs. Not knocking Southwest or their cuisine, I love it! But unless the secret ingredient is black beans Bobby doesn't stand a chance! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

My husband and I are loyal IC fans! We have been waiting for this weekend (i know...what losers we are!). I'm for Morimoto all the way. I cannot stand Bobby Flay.

Now we just need a good IC dinner to watch the show...any suggestions? And we won't eat crab brain and shark fin!

Sandy, I'm on your team. I love FoodTV, but I really don't like Bobby Flay. He's too arrogant perhaps.

Oh, I'll definitely watch! I watched the first one, just because I REALLY like Chef Morimoto. Way back when, before IC started, Sarah Moulton had him on her Primetime show and I was TOTALY impressed with him. Every now and then I actually watch IC, but only if I'm bored, or if I want to irritate the hubbie!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

For the record, I had a friend who met B. Flay and he is MORE obnoxious in person than on the TV. I have NEVER been able to stand his show with the female who asks the "silly" questions and batts her eyelashes at big bad Bobby.

And he did deserve to lose, and I'm sure he'll lose again. He acted like a child, all of his dishes used the same spices and the same concepts. The whole goal on Iron Chef is to show the many things you can do with one basic ingredient. It shows skill, knowledge and creativity as a Chef, Bobby can only toss South Western spices on everything and make it all green. He can't hold a candle to Chef Morimoto.

Go Chef Morimoto!!!

Good one gabby! BF and I aren't big Iron Chef fans, but we will watch it once in awhile and we will probably watch this for a laugh and to watch Chef Morimoto kick Bobby Flay's arrogant behind!

I am an Iron Chef fan and I'm totally for Chef Morimoto. I also can not stand Bobby Flay. I think it's his voice. It drives me insane!!! Why can't they have Emeril go against the Iron Chef? That would be interesting.

This thread is too funny.
I have only seen this show once with the chef from Canada (can't remember his name). I thought the Canadian chef clearly should have won, so the impression I've had is they are biased towards Morimoto.
I also cannot stand the judges' comments, especially little miss thang.
My DH is absolutely hooked on this show. Must be the idea of a race and/or battle.
I'm for Morimoto because Bobbie Flay is so full of himself.

I completely agree with all of you--esp. Jewel--so funny!!! Go Morimoto!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I don't get to watch IC that often, but whenever I do--I think it is a riot! The giggle lady says the same thing every time "Ooooh--it's so good. Tee-hee." I love it.

I totally agree that they should have picked more of a 'culinary expert' than a grill guy to compete. Maybe Bobby's ego was so large that he insisted on doing it?

It always amuses me to watch Bobby Flay's show because he always has these young, skinny coed-looking girls helping him with the meals. And that butcher guy that is on reminds me of a character from The Sopranos.

I don't watch IC, but I would have to vote for Morimoto. BF can be rude. Last week he had a guy (for once!) helping him make potato cakes and he was ripping into him about the way he shaped them.

Sue, you notice that too? What's that one chick's name, Jackie? On 'Hot Off the Grill' not 'Food Nation'. Total leggy bimbo with the cleavage and the half-inch eyelashes simply FAWNING over what Bobby can do to a salmon filet (sigh!) I wonder how much money she makes to pretend he's so dreamy?

Has anyone in Arizona been to his restaurant? What's it called, the 'Mesa Grill' or something like that? I'm curious as to the quality and service of that place since they build him up on FoodTV to be some spectacular chef!

I am so cheering for Morimoto!! I can't stand Bobby Flay!! I heard that they hire people to be in the audience on his show. Yeah - they would have to pay me too.

I thought he made Americans in general look bad on the last Iron Chef Challenge. I would love to see some of the other FoodTV folks on Iron Chef though. Even Emeril!

Emeril would be a good choice as a competitor but I think he may be a little slow in the prep. Now the Naked Chef would be an awesome competitor!

I've said the same thing so many times! Emeril can get a little overbearing sometimes and he needs to learn a few new sayings, but I think it would be a total KICK to watch him up against an Iron Chef! He has so much personality and so much more skill and range than Bobby Flay! As I've said before, if Bobby can't grill it he's lost...Emeril can cook anything! That's one IC that I wouldn't miss for anything! Are you listening FoodTV?? Lose Bobby Flay, bring on Emeril! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I don't watch Iron Chef, but I find this thread quite interesting because of something my wife recently read.

She had seen, she thinks in TV Guide, comments about various TV chefs in that mostly they are very nice, helpful, friendly, etc. The lone stand-out was Bobby Flay who was described with all of the unfavorable adjectives you all have mentioned, and basically intimated that he is an a-hole! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif

So, for me, it's a no-brainer: MORIMOTO!

I agree whole-heartedley with LauraB. I'm not a big fan at all of that show. I've seen it a few times but I absolutely cannot stand Bobby Flay. He is way too full of himself - and his sidekick - omigod!

Right on m4star and Jewel! BF and I feel that it would make for VERY high ratings! Not to mention downright hilarious! Thanks for sharing the story Ralph, my exact sentiments about Bobby!

I'm rooting for Morimoto, too...I'm sure he'll make a "very grown-up meal," hee hee...
http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif Yeah, they could come up with more original comments and have better qualified judges, but then it wouldn't have that odd combination of the esthetically divine with the ridiculous, would it? DH and I think the show's a riot! It would be boring if we had to take it seriously... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif

I really have not watched his shows very much. I did not care for him based on the few that I had seen, but my strong opinion against him was formed when I was still working in a bookstore. His book Boy Meets Grill has HIS NAME on EVERY PAGE (or evey other page) in large letters along the outer edge. That struck me as odd and I started thinking about it - generally books do not contain the author's names on every page - usually just the title of the book and what chapter you are in. I guess Bobby did not want anyone to forget that it was HIS book. And, in his defense, he may not have had anything to do with that decision. But it just cemented my previous opinion of him and made me adamant about not liking him. Ugh!

I love the Iron Chef and I think they are amazing. Although, some of the dishes they prepare seem very unappetizing. The obession for foie gras and fat netting is beyond me. Bobby Flay is no match for an Iron Chef.

Which theme ingredient would you like to see?

I have never even seen this Bobby Flay person's show, but now I'm so curious to see what an a*@ he is, that I think I may watch it! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

There was actually an article in the New York Times arts and leisure section about the overall machismo of the Food Network and she singled out Bobby Flay as a example. (I do find him overbearing.) The writer wished for more female chefs hosting shows.

I sort of see her point, but as long as the advice given is good information, I don't care who's the messenger. (I think Alton Brown's the best!)

Hey, I like Bobby! Sure he's a little full of himself, but I bet you'd be too if you made all that $$.

Let me just say that if the "giggle lady" was cooking against Bobby Flay, I'd vote for her whatever she made!!
