I received this as a Christmas gift from DH! I love it but have a question about the ground coffee.... As I clean it out, the grounds seem "chunky" and not finely ground like the preground coffee is... They're not huge but they are like little tiny nuggets - is this right? This is my first experience with grinding my own.

Thanks guys! :)

I have a Cuisie grind n brew and the grind is not as fine as pre-ground coffee. When I used my own grinder, it also wasn't as fine as the pre-ground coffee as I recall -- it's been about 20 years since I bought pre-ground coffee. :)

The models seem to work with the grind they produce -- how did the coffee taste?

Sounds like they've preset the machine for the grind that is best for that machine. I'm quite sure it's right. Most automatic drip coffee machines take over 10 minutes to brew a pot. Anything that brews that long should use a somewhat more coarsely ground coffee (although not course like you would use for a french press) than the preground stuff. Too finely ground coffee in an auto-drip machine will produce bitter, harsh coffee (the finely ground coffee will over extract). The preground stuff, while ok in an auto drip machine is actually better suited to the Melitta brew method (the brewing method where you put an open cone over a thermal pot and pour hot water over the grounds yourself. This method brews in about 3 minutes as opposed to 10-13 minutes, and hence you need more finely ground coffee to extract enough in only 3 minutes).

The coffee tasted great - I was just surprised to see the larger grounds. Thought I'd check with our experts!!! ;) :D

Thanks blazedog and Grace!!

Just make sure you clean out and dry the part where you put the beans in after every use. If you don't, you'll get a clumpy mess where the beans are.
